• How can I keep my PC safe from viruses?

How can make sure my PC is protected and free of viruses? I don't click on random links on the net, I don't download and run programs from unknown sources. I have noscript installed and scan my system daily with malwarebytes. I never have any issues but I use my PC to check to log in into different sites and also for online banking so I don't want to take any chances. How can you tell for sure that you don't have a keylogger on your pc? I heard that anti-virus software doesn't really protect from viruses.
Adblock Plus works.
Common sense and a decent anti-virus.
Adblock Plus works.
Have it already installed. [editline]9th February 2013[/editline]
Common sense and a decent anti-virus.
I think that I do have common sense. I don't open links people send me unless I know what they are, don't download and open programs from unknown sources, don't visit shady websites. But just minutes ago I got logged out of steam and couldn't log in. Had to chance my password. I scanned my pc with windows defender, malwarebytes and hijackthis and found nothing. Now I don't know if it was just a strange glitch or if I have a keylogger on my system. [editline]9th February 2013[/editline] Also what is a decent anti-virus?
Microsoft Security Essentials
Microsoft Security Essentials
Doesn't work under Windows 8.
Doesn't work under Windows 8.
you have windows defender installed by default defender on w8 = mse on w7/vista

Well Avast has a free version that you can download and use.
Buy a license for a good antivirus if you're really that worried, it's not that expensive.
Buy a license for a good antivirus if you're really that worried, it's not that expensive.
It doesn't save the world. In most cases taking caution and don't click on random links/ads proves more useful. Most of the times viruses get pass anti-virus scanners (the new ones that is).
All i use is common sense and ESET Smart Security 5, never had a problem
MSE and sometimes a scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.
Viruses are like non existant to me. I just use MSE and common sense.
Just do what I do. Install all your games and shit on another HDD, then have nothing of importance at all, so if you do all you have to do is re-install and then your PC is even faster. Also Defender on W8 is all you need.
Microsoft Security Essentials
I'd advise against MSE. It's pretty bad at detection compared to other free alternatives. You can customize to the point of it being 100% invisible until it detects a threat.
Microsoft Defender and ESET Security Essentials. No problems so far.
Common sense. Most so called "hackers" tempt to encrypt their viruses so your antivirus would be completely useless so DONT download anything from internet unless you are 100% sure about it.
I am using steam guard (wouldn't be able to trade without it anyways) and gmail with phone verification. Nothing happened since then but I am still worried. I am afraid of leaving my pc on overnight because I think that a hacker will hack himself in while I am sleeping :v:
On Windows 7 I used Avast, and on Windows 8 I use the built in one. Not had any problems really. I think the last time I had a virus was more than 3 years ago, possibly longer. Just don't use something shitty like norton or mcafee.
