The Ace Combat series has been the only arcade flying game I've enjoyed. This is great.
AH wasn't even good. The game replaced dog fights with quick time event sequences. [editline]27th November 2012[/editline] And the Helicopter system was bad. The shells were not explosive at all and were just hard to operate.
If you liked the Ace Combat series prior to this, you won't like AH I assure you.
Too bad it's shit.

Damn....am I the only one who liked Assault Horizons? I mean yeah, it certainly wasn't their best entry in the series (I personally think that belongs to ACZ) but damn it wasn't that bad.

Basic-but-slow regenerative health on all but the highest difficulty, QTEs all over the place or 'auto-chase' sequences that follow opponents for you, and all sorts of other factors like the grittier tone or the hard guitars and 'atmosphere' to everything. It's only extra that it takes place in real-life instead of the AC's Strangereal, with a 'DESTROY AMERICA OUT OF REVENGE' russian antagonist, albeit not all of Russia are bad guys, just that guy's renegade faction. Apparently it's a good game by itself, but most fans just don't stop bitching about it and its story - if you play these games for that - really doesn't try to reinvent the wheel at all.

Fuck that. I barely even want to use the ERS system in HAWX to intercept planes. I prefer going assistance OFF to get behind them.
Ace Combat 4. Infact! im going to go play that right now, where the fuck is my PS2. The best parts had to have been when you were low on health, you had a mission to blow up any enemy space gun thing that could destroy the world. you had to fly through a convoluted base with only a foot on either side of your wings to maneuver...blow it up, fly through the shit again and pop back out the other side. it was fucking awesome.
To be fair the worst thing about this game is the god awful cod clone missions The AC-130 and chopper gunner missions are so shamelessly ripped off from CoD its not even that funny, just so bad it gives you a bitter taste in your mouth. The best thing is the Air to ground missions (not the choppers), especially when you assault all the boats but there isn't enough of those
I think this had to rank as one of my biggest gaming disappointments of last year. I really hope AC can get back to what made it great and erase this failure. I see no reason why they would even port this embarrassment I would have rathered them keep the story in a fictional world and not just ape COD set pieces (as Saxon has already stated). I didn't really like 6 as much as the prior games, but I would take 6 over AH any goddamned day of the week.

Which is kind of annoying considering the 3DS game, Cross Rumble, got rebranded as 'Assault Horizon Legacy' to make American gamers think it was tied in with AH, when it's really a remake/retelling of the 2nd game.
It was an alright game. The only thing about the auto chase/regen features that bothered me was that you can't disable them for multiplayer. If there were options to have oldschool, no auto chase/regen, matches then I would have played more. As is, new people can shoot down the vets ridiculously easy. For the first run through campaign, I had no problem with the auto chase sequences since they're trying to be cinematic. But starting the missions in Free Mode or whatever definitely should have allowed you to do without them since at that point you're not playing for the story and cinematics.
All I want are Zero, Five and 4. Or just Zero will do. That game was the best thing ever.
Ace Combat 6 was a fucking incredible game, port that instead. Assault Horizon was decent from what I played but fuck those helicopter controls
Whoa. Whoa.
REALLY?!
I've actually been waiting for this for some 10 years now. I don't even care how much they departed from the originals, I'm just glad I'm finally gonna be able to play Ace combat again.
What they really need to do is make an HD pack of all the PS2 gen games and put them on steam I'dd buy it in a second
This isn't an Ace Combat game, it's more like a Call of Duty game where you're in the pilot's seat (And crew chief sometimes) of the aircraft you see in the background skybox. As for the previous Ace Combat games, all great, every one of them
This is the only Ace Combat I ever loved:

Oh and the game was too short.
Well this is interesting news. Nice to see that Namco Bandai have the right idea, but it would had made more sense to just bring out the next Ace Combat (7) on PC instead of this. "Enhanced" Edition hmm? They might have learned their lesson from the port of Dark Souls being a bit "Shoddy". I would buy this, but only if they have it so you can disable Dog Fight Mode downright for the campaign. Fuck DFM. That thing is just rage worthy. Everything else is fine, i dont mind the real world setting and stuff, but i dont want DFM anywhere near my experience if i choose to replay it again. As mentioned before by someone else, AH is good on its own, but it shouldn't have Ace Combat in the title... Then again, Ace Combat was something that was so under my radar it was stealth until i noticed AH back in 2011. I have 4, 5 and Zero, and 6. (I've only played 6, saving the PS2 Ace Combats for a rainy day) and 6 was very enjoyable.
I guess I can assume I'm the only one who actually enjoyed the helicopter segments then (not the gunner pieces).
I guess I can assume I'm the only one who actually enjoyed the helicopter segments then (not the gunner pieces).
You know somethings wrong with the game that prides itself with you being able to fly a wide range of Fighter Jets, that you end up enjoying the Apache missions more because of the damn scripting while flying a Fighter Jet. One thing for certain though, AH's saving grace was the Soundtrack (for most of it anyway, it's not perfect, it's got some hit and miss). If the game didnt have the Soundtrack that it did, i would had ditched pretty early.
I still hopes They Done PS2 series than AH.
I guess I can assume I'm the only one who actually enjoyed the helicopter segments then (not the gunner pieces).
It was a sound idea but the controls and camera view were just really clumsy, the whole segments felt really unpolished.
In what universe would a PC flight game fan want to play a game where you aren't 100% in control of your aircraft at all times. Auto-chase and QTE dogfights? Shit on that.
Distant thunder is still my most favourite ace combat game. I really didn't enjoy AH coming from every other ace combat.
Holy shit, an HD collection of AC on the pc would be so great. I still play ac04 from time to time on the ps2. Seriously, it had one of the all time greatest ps2 soundtracks. Every other ace combat has seemed mediocre since, but I'll still buy this, I think, just for old times sake.
