I wouldn't pay for an extra phone line just to get more people trying to scam me either.
Landlines are almost redundant these days anyway.
My family still has our landline, but we pretty much just ignore it since everyone we know will just call our cells.
We haven't used our landline since the late 1990s on a regular basis, and we haven't had a phone hooked up to it since the early 2000s. The only reason we still have it is ATT forces us to buy it if we want internet for some bizarre reason.

If I'm honest I'm glad they are going, compared to a mobile phone they are so disruptive to the flow of life. With a mobile they get answered in seconds whereas a landline forces you to stop whatever your doing to answer and then potentially run round the house having to find the person they were asking for.
Never thought much about this as my home has always had a home phone that people ring on a daily basis. We almost never get any nuisance calls. We all still have mobiles but it is 50/50 as to what people call.
It's stealth dialup. They won't tell you it is, but it secretly is.
that would explain the instability...
Landlines are a nice thing, but there's just better out there. Who wants a phone that's permanently fixed to a room or a house when you can carry one anywhere in the world with you, especially when the only phone calls you'll get over it are trying to sell you something because your phone company sold your info
Yeah, I haven't even touched a landline phone since the mid 2000s. It's a dinosaur at this point.
Nobody worth talking to calls a landline.
Only have a landline because my father doesn't want a cell phone. I have one though.
