• Goodbye Windows XP ?

So i was in my electronics class today and we were talking about recycling and about people throwing things away because it was old or needed updating somehow the conversation got onto windows and computers, and my teacher started to talk about how windows is constantly updating and growing its operating systems and software that accompany them. With the new "Windows 7" just around the corner and poor old windows XP being shadowed by these monstrous new operating systems, what is going to happen to Windows XP. Is it just going to be left to rot with no updates, surviving on fat loneley coders sitting in there basement for days on end writing code to keep the outdated monster alive, in its blue and green glory ?. Or will it stay strong forever being supported by the world? I for one will miss the plain chunky windows XP start bar and its boring menus with shitty error sounds and boring logion screens. Will you ?
No.
I think the updates will stop for Windows XP around 2010, and XP will probably die out in a few years, 7 became a really good alternative.
I'll keep using XP until things start to become incompatible with it. No need to upgrade to a newer OS when the one you're on works just fine...
Windows 7 replaced XP. XP, don't let the door hit your ass on the way out.
I herd they are dropping support 16'th
They aren't completely dropping support for another year or two i think, they know how compatible and loved XP is.
surviving on fat loneley coders sitting in there basement for days on end writing code to keep the outdated monster alive
lol, now coders use Windows. Ya right.
lol, now coders use Windows. Ya right.
He meant, people keep making programs for XP. And yes, more people make programs for the Windows platform than any other.

Schools and many stores and companies are still going to use Xp. Amusingly enough, I went into an antique shop and the person was using windows 95 at the cash register.
Windows 7 is possibly worse than Vista. It has a horrid interface when upgrading from XP, user controlling and all kinda crap that XP has simple. Also, most drivers aren't compatible. INCOMING DISAGREES, WINDOWS FANBOYS PATTING THEMSELVES ON BACK WOO

XP is the most stable, well-rounded OS I've ever used. When stuff starts to become exclusive to Vista or 7, not because it needs to be but because people want it to be, I will rage. XP works best and I see no reason to not keep supporting it.

Now if you'll please stop threadshitting and get out.

I tried Windows 7 without using Vista on my new PC. No drivers were compatible with my ATI stuff. The interface was horrid, I couldn't find anything.
Listen here mate. I tried Windows 7 without using Vista on my new PC. No drivers were compatible with my ATI stuff. 3 of my PCs have ATI chipsets, all of them have ATI cards and one has an ATI capture card. Tell me, Why did every single one of my computers work perfect driver wise on windows 7 right from RC1 whereas yours did not?
Windows 7 is possibly worse than Vista. It has a horrid interface when upgrading from XP, user controlling and all kinda crap that XP has simple.
Listen here mate. I tried Windows 7 without using Vista on my new PC. No drivers were compatible with my ATI stuff. The interface was horrid, I couldn't find anything.
Then you're doing it wrong. Windows 7 comes with a shitload of drivers. I installed it on like twenty different computers thus far and I've never even had to visit the ATI site, as the drivers came on the disc. Either you're doing it wrong or you're completely unlucky with the setup you're running. But don't go passing it along as fact because it's not how Windows 7 is at all.
XP works best and I see no reason to not keep supporting it.
That's like saying your old Saturn works best when there is a nice new Cadillac right here that you could use.
It's my opinion.
Listen here mate. I tried Windows 7 without using Vista on my new PC. No drivers were compatible with my ATI stuff. If you can't find anything you are blind or retarded.
Where is your evidence for "Most", which implies a majority. My 1999 Happauge winTV card even worked from drivers found on the disc, that damn card hasn't been manufactured for roughly 7 years!!
Schools and many stores and companies are still going to use Xp. Amusingly enough, I went into an antique shop and the person was using a windows 95 at the cash register.
My school actually upgraded everything to Vista this year.
Okay, the 'most' thing consisted on my ATI Radeon 4890 HD card. I'm going to leave this thread because you guys bullied me out.

I can't believe I didn't wait for 7... I bought Vista like an idiot [editline]09:17PM[/editline] But now I have 7 I mean.
It's still supported til 2014 or something. But just because it does doesn't mean you should use it.
my friend installed XP on his laptop and had a hard time finding sound drivers. few days later he installed windows 7 and he didn't even need to install a sound driver; it was done automatically. he did have problem installing his cellular phone modem though, but he managed to do it with the compatibility mode without any issues whatsoever. XP has been in our hearts for a long time. i think it's safe to say that it's time to move on. also, i don't miss XP, the same way i don't miss windows 98SE which i used a long time ago. sure, they were great for their time but things change and improve.
