Okay, so today, i bought a boxed copy of Call of Duty: Black Ops, and put it in my computer. At first, the computer did abso-fucking-lutely nothing, so i took it out and put it back in. Then, the autorun appears, so on and so forth, but, due to circumstances, i had to cancel the installation (it was installing the game from the disk). Everything seemingly went fine, but just minutes ago i returned to my computer to find that Steam wouldn't launch. I rebooted it and Steam launched fine as always, but Black Ops won't install. I ran the autorun, pressed "re-install" and now there's an "invisible" window on my desktop named "Validating Steam files - 0% completed" It stays this way, doesn't do any progress, i can't close the window, i can't see what the fuck is going on, and i just want it to fucking work!
FTR, I'm trying to run it on 32-bit Windows XP, and i have almost never had installation problems like this in the past. And my PC does meet the minimum requirements
Did you register the key in steam (or wherever, not sure if steam handles it)?
If you did not, just open the steam folder, delete the codblops GCF files in the steamapps folder - if there are any. Also there should be a "common" folder delete anything codblops related from there.
After that it should work fine. Should.

I registered the code with Steam, yes, but that didn't stop the installation from fucking up. Gonna try doing what you advised. Here, have a wrench
