Ok, so the graphics card i currently have is this: http://www.dabs.com/products/gigabyte-ati-radeon-hd-4550-600mhz-512mb-ddr3-pci-express-dvi-5C2V.html?q=Gigabyte%20ATI%20Radeon%20HD%204550%20600Mhz%20512MB%20DDR3%20PCI-Express%20DVI It's not a bad card, doesn't overheat (surprisingly, with no onboard fan, but it fits into place beside my heatsink so that cools it down a bit) But if i buy another card, in the price range of up to £70, will i notice any difference in my games? Here are the games i play. (or atleast the ones i have on steam) Im planning on overhauling my prebuilt Dell Optiplex 755. It currently has, the above card, 4GB of RAM, Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4ghz. Im planning on changing the card and i've got 12GB of RAM that i can put in when i get 64bit Windows 7 Ultimate.
Spend a bit more for this... http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/512MB-Power-Color-HD-5670-PCI-E-21(x16)-4000MHz-GDDR5-GPU-775MHz-400Cores-D-Sub-DL-DVI-I-HDMI Or a bit less for this... It's better for higher resolutions, but those are the best I could find within your budget. There are Nvidia ones which are at 1024MB but they had a lot slower clock speed..
Ok then. Thanks :)

The memory on graphics cards is mostly only used for scaling the image across larger resolutions, unless you have a massive monitor (or three) you shouldn't need much more. Also don't put 12GB in your PC, put 4 or 8 or 16 if it's possible.
Dont worry about the 512 mb stuff, if you can get 1gb OMG the 5670s are out. :) They have a special new feature don't they?
Why not? I have 12GB, its an excuse to get 64bit windows 7 rather than stick wtih 4gigs on 32bit Vista.
Because Core2 CPUs channel memory in sets of 2, e.g. 1, 2, 4, 8GB. Only i7s channel memory in sets of 3. It's more efficient to use the right number sets.
So will it do my computer some sort of harm? [editline]04:03PM[/editline] Or will it just take up loads of power?
You just won't get as much of a performance gain.
Don't get Windows 7 Ultimate. It's not worth it. Just stick with Home Premium 64-bit and save yourself some money.
Where my dad works is ordering in some copies of it, and i've asked him nicely and he's giving me one.
Where my dad works is ordering in some copies of it, and i've asked him nicely and he's giving me one.
Hey if it's free go for it. That's why I have Vista x64 Ultimate.

Or you can pirate win 7 :O [editline]05:35PM[/editline] But thats mean to Windows because they really need every penny because they are such a poor company *sarcasm* But dont do it still :P (Though it works nice :O) (User was banned for this post ("Warez" - Hexxeh)) (User was banned for this post ("" - Hexxeh))
Why would you need 12 GBs of RAM anyway? I never really even pass 3 GBs of RAM with Windows 7 64-bit when I play games (I have 4 GB of RAM). Just get 4 GBs if you are gaming, but make sure it is DDR3 and has a fast speed like 1600. Anything over 6 GBs is overdoing it, unless you are crazy.
