• Becoming admin on school laptop?

I don't know if this is in the wrong section, this seems to be the right place to post about this. SO, my school has given all of us laptops (we take them home and stuff), but it's as restricted as shit. Is there anyway to become an admin? And yes, I've googled about this before, but the methods didn't work. I've tried that "at xx launch "cmd.exe" thing, but it doesn't work. I know the risks of gaining priviladges, I just want to know if there is a way. The laptop is a lenovo r400, if you care
Are the computers using novell?
Create a separate partition and dual boot. [editline]12:46PM[/editline] All of the benefits, I think, and none of the risks, I think.
If they gave you the laptops for free, it's their laptop, not yours. You might end up losing it by taking the restrictions off. [editline]02:22PM[/editline] Or dual booting, as they'd notice.

If you can boot a CD on it, http://lifehacker.com/232963/screenshot-tour-how-to-crack-a-windows-password-with-ophcrack-live-cd
It should tell you when you log on that it is using novell, because the log-in screen will have Novell on it.
I don't think it's using Novell, never seen the logo or anything like that before...
Just leave it. Who cares if you can't install your games on it.
It normally looks like this.. I don't think that laptop would have it due to the fact it would have to be constantly connected to the school network. I could be wrong. When i was in school we didn't have the money to hand out laptops to ever kid, our English department could barely afford books - half of the books we used where bought by our teachers with their own personal funds. You shouldn't do anything to destroy or change the computer its is suppose to be used as a tool to help with your education. Doing what your trying to do will only get it taken away from you. I know if i got a laptop while i was in school like that i would leave it as is.
Just leave it. Who cares if you can't install your games on it.
I do :( I want to install firefox and defragment the drive and shit :(
I do :( I want to install firefox and defragment the drive and shit :(
Buy a large flash drive and put puppylinux on it or something.
I do :( I want to install firefox and defragment the drive and shit :(
It's a waste, You'll get it taken away, get in trouble, and probably get in trouble with your parents too. Not worth a few games. It's probably not good enough to even run them well.

In most school districts ranging from USA to UK and pretty much everywhere, fuck with the computers and you're liable for suspension, let alone no computer privileges what-so-ever. In order to contribute, there are programs that force command prompt windows to open, but I won't tell you which ones. I'll tell you this right now, don't do it. I nearly got expelled in my sophomore year for something that wasn't harmful, nor my fault. The only reason why I stayed and got off all punishment other than no access for 3 weeks (locking an account to view logs) is because the I.T. guy and the vice principal is awesome. 2 years later, I'm now the I.T. guys intern and I'm getting my own administrator account soon. Just don't fuck yourself for the future.
If you are really set on getting admin on this thing you can take it apart and reset the BIOS by taking out a jumper and booting it. That brings it back to manufacturer settings.
I do :( I want to install firefox and defragment the drive and shit :(
Shit, is that all? Just using some of your own applications off a flash drive? http://portableapps.com/ http://www.portablefreeware.com/ You can find portable firefox (look for a guide to install flash) and find a lot of defrag programs. I can recommend Defraggler Portable: http://www.defraggler.com/download/builds [editline]12:17PM[/editline]
Thanks for your concern, but I don't live on the US or on the UK. However, if you can prove it that it's okay, just don't make it hard for the I.T. guy.
Why are my tax dollars going to punk kids trying to hack their free laptops?
how about you ask them that you want to install firefox and defrag it.

Right because he's totally going to follow that advice.
You're telling somebody don't do something that you did and got privileges for later on down the line? Right because he's totally going to follow that advice.
Read my post again. I didn't do anything, however something happened to my account because some kid wanted a fake admin account on the computer I used in my class. They linked it to my account, so they locked me out for investigation. I helped them out to the best extent I could, and talked to them about how I am not the kind of guy to do that. I know (even more so now) how the I.T. world in public schools is a pain to handle. The I.T. guy determined it wasn't me, and he apologized for the 3 week lock out. Now he's a great friend of mine. Portable apps. Learn 'em, use 'em, love 'em... Portable apps are apps that let you use programs like google earth, firefox and microsoft office with out installing ... Here is firefox stand-alone portable (You just run the exe) : http://www.mininova.org/tor/2879032 [editline]20:27pm[/editline] damn ninjas
Put a keylogger on the master computer?:smug:

My friend brought in his laptop (now mine) and we used cain and abel to just sit and monitor shit. We ended up getting over 500 user accounts and passwords, 100 of which were teacher/security/IT/whatever. Unfortunately, we forgot to spoof MAC addresses. They found out, but the day they called me in they asked for my laptop, and the laptop I had on me at the time was a Tecra 730CDT from like 1994. Needless to say, they didn't bust us because the computer had no MAC address at all, it was too old. But if you are gonna do malicious things... A) Plan hard, plan well. Most school IT's don't know what they're doing, but they're quick to see if something's wrong. B)Always have a plan B. C) If you do happen to get caught, have fallback evidence that proves "innocence." That's my three cents.
