The Problem My Dad's pc has broke because when booting it comes up an error. The tile of the error box says lsass.exe and the error message says This application failed to start because cryptdll.dll could not be found. Re-installing may fix this problem. What I have already tried. First of all i tried making a recovery console disk, but although the forum where i found this possible solution said it worked, i couldnt find an image file that worked. On all of the image files i tried windows never came up with the option boot from cd. So if anybody has a working Recover Console iso i would be more than willing to try it again. So next I tried plugging my Dad's hard drive into my PC and copying cryptdll.dll into his system32 folder. But this still didn't work :'( What I want to know I have just came up witht the idea of copying me lsass.exe into his system32 folder but I am running Vista :( and he is running XP and I was wondering if these files will be different for different operating systems? Or I would be willing to try any other suggestions

Do you have the original XP disc that (presumably) came with his computer?

My old computer with OEM xp had it.
