As far as I understand it's not really a public alpha. First of all the description on some of the forum posts and website indicate that you can sign up for free, but they will only invite you when they have capacity to do so, ie. closed beta opt-in system. You can buy access to the alpha and get in instantly but I hardly consider that a public alpha.
Why alpha or betatest it if you have a history of not fixing game breaking bugs AT ALL.
