The core of the game is a procedurally generated dungeon which is capped by a small town populated by weapon, armour, and potion sellers. Your play will be made up of regular excursions into the deep, dark mines, seeking out loot drops, greater fame, and adventure.
Makes it sound very generic, a polished version of free games that have been around for awhile. Roguelike, thats the word
Chasm (pronounced kaz-um)
What kind of illiterate needs to know at this point how to pronounce 'chasm'?
Makes it sound very generic, a polished version of free games that have been around for awhile. Roguelike, thats the word
I'm cool with a generic premise/summary if it's good game.
Dont try to lie to me, you stupid article! Chasm is obviously a FPS!
Procedural generation, pixel art, "metroidvania" buzzword, yep, it's a 100% generic indie game.
eh, seems pretty generic- but at least they have a working playable demo I'm sure there's something unique about this game but that video just didn't do it justice
I'm getting tired of this pixel art shit
I always thought the 'ARPG' classification was reserved for isometric clickfests, but this does seem interesting imo
I'm getting tired of this pixel art shit
Not only that, people can't seem to work beyond 2d plaformers
I always thought the 'ARPG' classification was reserved for isometric clickfests, but this does seem interesting imo
Normally ARPG just means "action RPG" (as opposed to turn based RPG) but for some reason a lot of people use the term to describe exclusively Diablo-like games.
I think the art looks pretty.
I think this looks sexy and innovative. The Fate/Torchlight type of game where you have a town hub and spend your time dungeon crawling deeper and deeper hasn't been done in 2d before.
I'm getting tired of this pixel art shit
I don't care if people use pixel art (or any other medium) for their game as long as the art direction itself is solid, interesting and consistent.
What kind of illiterate needs to know at this point how to pronounce 'chasm'?
i used to think it was pronounced chaz-um so...
Not only that, people can't seem to work beyond 2d plaformers
Because it requires much more work. 2D games are so much easier to make.
What kind of illiterate needs to know at this point how to pronounce 'chasm'?
i've met several people who pronounces chasm with a ch.
Procedural generation, pixel art, "metroidvania" buzzword, yep, it's a 100% generic indie game.
A lot of people complain about pixel art without understanding why it's a problem in a lot of indie games (see quoted post). The reason it's a problem is people make graphics that awful and slap "retro" or "8 bit" on it for an excuse, when really there were lots of retro games with really neat art despite the limitations. The art for this game is actually really nice though. [editline]14th April 2013[/editline] also there is a demo just try the game, I'm playing it right now it seems pretty cool though the controls are like 10 years out of date
In two years I'll be living in a world where people will instantly dismiss a game because "LAWL PIXELS INDIE GAMME" as if its a feature that the game revolves around, instead of actually judging the art and gameplay and themes in the game for what it is just like what people did with so-called "art" games a while back lol
Procedural generation, pixel art, "metroidvania" buzzword, yep, it's a 100% generic indie game.
because a game genre is a buzzword man that cod game with that "fps" buzzword, yep
They use the phrase 'authentic pixel art'. As opposed to what? knockoff chinese pixel art?
They use the phrase 'authentic pixel art'. As opposed to what? knockoff chinese pixel art?
One could argue that any computer generated art is pixel art.
The environment looks a lot like Project Black.
One could argue that any computer generated art is pixel art.
Does having less pixels in an image make it more authentic?
why can't we ever get non-side scrolling/zelda-like roguelikes? why can't we have a third person rougelike?? i understand indie budget stuff and whatnot, but there is a serious need of variation in the genre. seriously getting sick of the pixel art.
I'm getting tired of this pixel art shit

Not only that, people can't seem to work beyond 2d plaformers
I'm getting tired of this realistic art shit Not only that, people can't seem to work beyond first person shooters
I'm getting tired of this realistic art shit Not only that, people can't seem to work beyond first person shooters
let's just say that art styles as a whole are becoming overly stagnant and leave it at that
let's just say that art styles as a whole are becoming overly stagnant and leave it at that
Games that have you turn off your monitor and navigate by sound are the future
Games that have you turn off your monitor and navigate by sound are the future
well i mean, it's not like all this overly realistic shit isn't getting a bit dull, but then it's as if the only consistent alternative is either cell-shading or sprites. there's just very little that's new and interesting on the graphical front, is all i'm saying
