So I am buying parts for a computer within a couple of days, and I just need some other eyes to check over and maybe suggest other alternatives within the same price range. I already own a HD 5870 and a 550W PSU. I also plan on buying Win. 7 from where I work.
So this is what I was looking at:
CPU - AMD Phenom II X2 550 BE - $111.00
MOBO - Gigabyte GA-MA785G-UD3H - $97.69
RAM - OCZ 4GB DDR3 - $111.17
HDD - WD Caviar SE16 640GB - $64.55
DVD - Samsung SH-S222A 22x - $33.37
CASE - Antec 300 - $57.99
Total with Shipping($24.12) - $499.89
[editline]edit:[/editline] Sorry forgot to mention I have keyboard/mouse and monitor.
Use www.newegg.ca, its cheaper.
Not for the shipping and NCIX can pricematch.
[editline]Edit:[/editline] Total using Newegg with shipping is $516.03
You're missing a power supply.

Read the OP.

But he does need an optical drive.
Oh my bad, I was just up all night so I'm skimming through a lot of the stuff.

I have the Samsung DVD burner.
I'm probably going to order this tonight. I'm just not sure if I should get the X2 550 and try my luck at unlocking the other cores, or just buy a quad.

Just get the quad if you have the money.
To step up to the 965 (NCIX doesn't have the 955 which was the other choice) would be $100 more.
Other than that everything looks alright?
should you really get intergrated stuff?

How do you mean integrated?
get a gpu?

In the OP he said he already had a 5870

oh sorry, i scan read it :)
Nice a 5870 >.>

Yeah I won it from that Sapphire contest a couple of months ago, it completely overpowers everything in my current computer. So I will use it as an excuse to upgrade. :c00l:

So apparently almost half of the items I've ordered have a savings code, and I already ordered without putting them in. I'm going to try call them. :bang:
How do you mean integrated?
like inbuilt ethernet card/usb ports/sound card, stuff like that
wow you lucky bastard claytron :D
Imagine winning a 5870 >.>
I would cry, would have knocked loads of my computer and woulda been able to get other things... like food.
like inbuilt ethernet card/usb ports/sound card, stuff like that
Why would you want none integrated?
like inbuilt ethernet card/usb ports/sound card, stuff like that
This guy is dumb.. You don't a non-intergrated sound card(unless you do alot of sound editing stuff like that) nor a ethernet card..
ive been told that getting integrated shit is stupid because you cant replace the parts without having to replace the entire motherboard
uhh no? you just get a graphics/sound/whatever card and put it in and use that instead
the only time using integrated is a bad idea is when you need something better, e.g integrated sound cards are fine for 90%+ of people, or integrated GPUs might be fine for checking emails but are hardly great for games
Well I just found out/realized, when I was looking at drivers for this, that i bought the wrong motherboard. The one I got was a DDR2 board, I need a DDR3 one. So, I have to return it and get a new one.
I was just wondering if someone could recommend an ATX(not mATX) DDR3 board, preferably under $150. Thanks.
Thanks, that one looks better than the other one I was looking at. Now I just have to wait until my stuff is shipped to me so I can send it back.
Well, I'm still waiting for the motherboard to RMA. I have decided to buy a new PSU as well, because I'm afraid of my PowerUp! brand psu.
So I had two in mind:
Corsair TX750W ~ $99
OCZ ModXStream 700W Modular ~ $85
So should I spend the extra and get the Corsair and loose the modular?
