• Tell me what you think about my next gaming rig so far

Hi, I'm starting to build my own custom gaming rig. I'm kind of short on money so it won't be a total mindblowing rig but a decent one I guess. Here what I got so far: http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=11409269 Could you tell me which video card would be good to fit in? Also any tips on what I should get instead etc? Thanks!
We would like a budget.
We would like a budget.
Judging by his wishlist it seems like about 450-550. Give or take 50 bucks.
I think you need more power! Like a power supply. For a GPU, get a Ati 5770, they work well for their price. Snip some money from your ram, you don't need 8GB if it's going to cost you in GPU power, get 4 or 6. Get a AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition which will save you a other 20 bucks and you won't suffer terrible losses.

Great advice: a power supply would be a good idea uh? ;) For the GPU I did not add any video card yet since I'm gonna buy this barebone kit, install all my stuff on it, and then when I'll get a bit more money I'll buy one good video card ;) I won't try to play games with the shared video card :O :S Why would I suffer terrible losses if I choose the 965 over the 955? Thanks for your great advice! =)

I'd like to buy a SSD drive, because after reader benchmarks they look so freaking fast... I mean for the OS and maybe one of two principal games I think it would be awesome, and keeping the 1 TB just for dumping my music and stuff... What do you think? About my full budget: I'm going to buy one piece a week, so first I'll buy the tower, then the motherboard, etc, etc. So I don't have any fixed budget since it'll be bought over time. The only rule would be a maximum of 200 bucks a piece (except for the videocard maybe). Thanks!
I really recommend that you buy everything at once
I really recommend that you buy everything at once
Why so? :)
prices change constantly, and to be honest right now there aren't a lot of good combo deals on Newegg right now so if you were to buy this all at once, how much money are you going to spend on it, and when? [editline]wefe[/editline] I would say since you said $200 per component, wait until you have like $1000 or something
If you don't buy everything at once, you start to close down a lot of your choices and prices tend to go down over time.

Skip the SSD if you don't have the money, if you have to save on your GPU, CPU, MOBO, ect to get a SSD don't do it, so thats why we all would like to have your budget. A SSD is really nice but not a must have and it's still expensive, even though it preform great. CPU, 140, GPU 100-200, Case 50-100, PSU 100, MOBO 100, Memory 100, HHD 100, DVD 20. So, do you have a budget of about 800-900 Dollar? 400-600 Dollar? 1.000,- or more?
Judging by his wishlist it seems like about 450-550. Give or take 50 bucks.
Not really, it doesn't contain all the parts you need, and I'm not sure if he means that we should fit those in the budget too or if he wants to expand his budget. How should I know?
Get two identical 7200rpm HDD's and RAID0 them. Just as fast as a SDD, but much cheaper.
Maybe the burst speed, but SSD's are mostly about access times, which aren't getting anywhere close to an SSD with a RAID0 setup of two HDD's.
Get two identical 7200rpm HDD's and RAID0 them. Just as fast as a SDD, but much cheaper.
No. no no no, no. No....no.
I was somehow redirected to OCZ PCI SSD so disregard that.
for video card I would suggest a GTX 550 ti for this semi-low budget you seem to be going for. At $150 and with a 30% increase over a GTS 450 it's hard not to recommend.
The 6790 beats or preforms the same as the 550 ti overcloked and is cheaper. http://tweakers.net/reviews/2086/6/hd-6790-aanval-op-de-mainstreammarkt-alien-vs-punt-predator.html

http://tweakers.net/reviews/2086/6/hd-6790-aanval-op-de-mainstreammarkt-alien-vs-punt-predator.html
That's fucking stupid, you know that? Like saying an i5 750 beats an i5 760 when overclocked. The 550 can be overclocked too, you know.
Or for $10 get a GTX 460 768Mb and beat them both? Especially when overclocked. Wait, save $40 with MIR. So worth it over those 2. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121390&cm_re=gtx_460_768mb-_-14-121-390-_-Product

[editline]6th April 2011[/editline] Asus GTX 550 Ti 975MHz. Instead of the "normal" 900MHz.

"The 6790 beats or preforms the same as the 550 ti, overcloked, and is cheaper." != "The 6790 beats or preforms the same as the 550 ti overclocked, and is cheaper." Just saying "The 6790 beats or preforms the same as the 550 ti overcloked and is cheaper." could be taken either way. but really it's the wording "The 6790 beats or preforms the same as the (OVERCLOCKED) 550 ti and is cheaper."

[editline]6th April 2011[/editline] Hell, the GTX 460 768MB is the same price...
Your current motherboard does not support the 6GB/s speeds of the WD hard drive you want to purchase. Although you can still use the old SATA with the new SATA3. It's compatible, I'm doing the same. [editline]6th April 2011[/editline] can play any game I throw at it without breaking a sweat.
