Jeez I wonder why, maybe because they keep shitting out AC games like they are still worth something.
Probably because 29% of the 30 are Assassins Creed games

Probably because each of Ubisoft's "open world games" are the exact same fucking thing.
Name ONE open world game from Ubisoft in the past 3 years that doesn't involve you climbing towers.

The Crew
The Crew
Dear god, I would hope not.
Can you imagine a car climbing a radio tower for some god unknown reason?
And each one is basically the same with a different skin on it.
Run around, find towers to unlock the map. This one you do it on wheels and roads in the Crew. This one you do it on foot in first person in Far Cry. This one you do it in third person in historic cities in Assassin's Creed. And I'm guessing The Division is going to use the same mechanic as well, but instead of towers, it'll be a small beacon guarded by a trash mob
AC is the buggier open world version of Copy Pasting CoD
I still find the level design and atmosphere in Ubisoft games to be pretty top notch, too bad the games tend to be bug ridden and suffer from shallow gameplay.
The Crew
The Crew has satellite dishes instead of radio towers but they're still essentially the same thing. Of course climbing them is not required this time. Maybe Ubi needs to gradually wean themselves off the concept.

Plot twist: the cars are in fact transformers, but they only transform to climb towers

WatchDogs, since you can't climb much.
And sadly none of them are memorable, aside from maybe Far Cry 3.
WatchDogs, since you can't climb much.
You still climb into the OS towers to unlock areas.
Ubisoft games all have this feel of "Jam so many features in" and then never really elaborate on them, the systems feel barebones and boring, and really take you out of the experience.
Dear god, I would hope not.

You may not have to climb them, but you still need to go to them to unlock areas of the map. All of Ubisoft's game are pretty much copy paste of basic game mechanics just with a different story and genre in just another empty open world map.
Open world is inherently flawed. I prefer the Dark Souls/Metriod style of "closed-open world", where everything is vast and interconnected, but you can't just pick a direction and go, because you're going to run into a wall or off a cliff. I think guiding the players experiences is better than giving them way too much freedom like in Bethesda's/Ubi's Games.
But maybe I'm wrong and we just need to wait around for a better developer to perfect the TRUE open world.
The Crew
Weren't there still towers you had to go and drive under for the same reasons you'd have to climb them.
I wonder if ubisoft is going to make the claim that far cry is set in the assassins creen universe

A-frickin-men. The environments are still huge, but the content is usually more condensed and concentrated.

If only that were actually the case. Hell, having a moderately open world with transformable vehicles could be amazing. Just look at the gameplay for Xenoblade Chronicles X.

What about games like Mount & Blade? Being free to do anything and make your own stories is what makes it great.

It's a dystopian future where cars are outlawed so mechanics hid their shops at the tops of towers to hide them from the military that kills on sight.

Assassin's Creed VI: Far Cry
I could see that title being real.

drive up a ramp and crash into the top of the tower

If anything, it would be awesome to have more RPGs like Mount & Blade, and less of the masses of FPS games!
Especially ones which attempt to blend genres a little, like M&B does.

Climbing towers with some obtuse collectibles which you can just find easily by buying maps off the local trader, complete with annoying crafting activities that involve scouting large areas with nothing in them to kill a bunch of animals.
The Crew comes close to that with the car parts to find in obscure locations that are more tedious than anything to find.
I'd hardly call "dominating a market with a flood of poorly made, samey open world games that few people want anymore" a " rather strong postion."

i remember doing that for hours in the Arma editor
CDPR's first attempt was better than Ubisoft's offerings for some time.

Hardcore gamers might not like them, but they sure sell like hotcakes. It's a pretty strong position if you're trying to make money. Which is what companies do.
I don't like Assassin creed.

drive up a hill and park your car to survey the area
