• Which phenom ii?

I have a 5770 with an Asus M4A785-M motherboard and 4gb of ddr2 ram. I'm looking at upgrading my AMD 4600+ cpu to a phenom ii, but I don't really know which one to get. I want to be able to play basically any game out right now, and to make sure the cpu is good for a while into the future. I haven't really overclocked before but I would be willing to try it. I don't really want to spend much money and I'm trying to get the best bang:buck ratio. I think the most expensive one I'm willing to buy is an x4 955, but I don't know if it will be worth the money compared to what I would get from a cheaper one. I'm buying from www.newegg.ca Any suggestions?
AMD Phenom II X2 555 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103846 If you have a compatible motherboard, you can unlock the other 2 cores.
My motherboard can do that, but core unlocking isn't guarenteed.

Get an athlon II x3/x4 instead
Why?
Three/Four cores, much nicer
Get an athlon II x3/x4 instead
He says he can get a phenom 955, so he may as well get that. Here are some benchmarks comparing the phenom 965 (which performs similarly to the 955) and an athlon 620 as well as some other processors. Core unlocking is pretty much guaranteed by now, at this point most of the dual cores are only knocked down to duals because there is still a market for them.

But will an unlocked 555 be as fast as a 955?
