After trying to playing minecraft, I noticed that java has shit all over my computer. It allows me to play java in browser. However attempting to play java applets results in:
--------------------------- Launch4j --------------------------- The registry refers to a nonexistent Java Runtime Environment installation or the runtime is corrupted. The system cannot find the path specified. --------------------------- OK ---------------------------
Which cannot be fixed by installing a new version, which has no effect. I would like to just remove all traces of java from my computer and start again, I have no idea what to delete though. Could anyone point me in the right direction?
Try the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. Remove any traces of Java in the program files folder / common folder, uninstall it from program files. Go into the registry and delete any keys relating to Java.
What he said, just don't use the installer cleanup tool, it was removed from the current kb articles because it had a tendency of being too agressive and would remove files that weren't associated with the installer too.

Damn I liked that tool. Sometimes one application would continuously try to install itself, and that would always do the trick. Anyways I forgot to mention a program called unlocker. You may need to install it figuring some of the Java files may be in use.
Deleted everything that had "java" in the name.. .. still getting it :argh:
Use msconfig to remove java's stupid auto updater.. Its called jusched.exe
Use msconfig to remove java's stupid auto updater.. Its called jusched.exe
This has nothing to do with the problem. Ok, I tried to install the latest version of java again, but the installer just says "regutils.dll" and exits. Java is a pile of crap.
Once had a similar problem when I first installed the SDK (which includest he JRE) in 32bit and then the one in 64bit into the same folder. I couldn't reinstall/repair it. I just could uninstall one SDK (including the JRE) but not both. Solution was finding the respective entries in the Registry (regedit.exe) and removing them. I also deleted everything in the folders I had Java installed to. Once done I was able to reinstall both SDKs (including the JREs) in separate folders for x86 and x64. Fixed everything for me.
