Actually Wind Waker but with Norman Reedus in an oil ocean and dead sea life.

So Kojima's making a gritty remake of Sonic 2? Rip Sonic copyright.
Ez money for kojima
I'm curious what engine he is using. As much as he and his team know it and could really put it to use, I'd absolutely hate to see him try to license the Fox engine from Konami. They deserve nothing.
I know it sounds douchey, but from what I've seen so far this game is a little weird for my taste. That Norman Reedus addition also seems a bit tacky to me for some reason.
I believe in Kojima though. I'm sure he'll change my mind when more info is released.
I'm going to take this game with a pinch of salt and instead of overhyping it, wait and see how it all works out.

imagine if the team at kojipro more or less remakes the fox engine and calls it the XOF engine
I'm so fucking tired of open world games, it feels like so many are these days.

He met Reedus through Del Toro. These connections happen all the time.

I doubt Konami would sell the Fox Engine any time soon, just as a I doubt they would sell anything they own until they're on their death bed.
Kojima did say that they used one of their engine candidates for the teaser, but they are still looking for an engine to use.
I'm going to hazard a guess and say they'll end up using UE4, as the popularity of UE4 is on the rise in Japan, it's an engine that is new as well as well documented, it's easy for both coders and artists to use, and is the only engine that can achieve Fox Engine like visuals without much tweaking.
Though who knows. Kojima did visit DICE during his whole around the world dev trip, so it may as well be Frostbite, if one could license it from EA.

I won't lie, I'd actually like to see something like that. Oceanhorn scratched that itch for a while, but then I hit a bit of a wall.
So if Norman Reedus actually goes sailing like Christopher Cross in mid-June, I'd probably be game for that.
Unity has a lot going for it, but lately it's felt like Unreal has been trying a lot harder than Unity to appeal to small developers looking for a cheap and effective engine.

I realize that, and I'm sure Kojima feels like he owes him a part after the Silent Hill failure. But familiar celebrity faces always throw me through a loop when I see them in a video game. It might be a great game, but whenever I see his face I'll always think of Daryl.
Reedus voice acting would be fucking great, but him having the face of what appears to be the main character comes off as goofy.
Fuck me, everything's open world now.
Am I the only one who miss the Half-Life style maps?

Last time we heard engine talk from Kojima himself he said he had narrowed his engine choice down to 2 engines (and now he has chosen). One of those 2 engines was the one used for the trailer, and there is evidence that the engine used for the trailer was the Sucker Punch engine which was used for the latest Infamous game. It's unknown what the other choice is.
I never played the metal gear franchise all that much but I'm a huge fan of Kojima and what he stands for in the industry.
I'm looking forward to this game doing very well on release.

I'm curious if it will be a finished product this time.

there's four+ hour "movie" versions of the games on youtube where people play through them and then remove the footage of everything but cutscenes and massively shortening all gameplay segments

Sucker Punch? Is that something available to pros only? Or is it for anyone who wants to use it like Unity/UE4?
I'm so fucking tired of open world games, it feels like so many are these days.
the issue with open world for me is that most AAA studios do them the exact same way. Some story markers mixed with annoying event markers nobody wants to complete, race markers, fighty markers, then some extremely shallow homogenous roaming mobs that if your lucky might fight eachother once or twice.
Open world is a good idea but to do it well you need to use it as a world not a menu screen for event markers. Look at shadow of mordor's orc leader system for a good example of one way to move it in the world direction.

We still have plenty of new linear games coming out every year
Most devs just get open world wrong, they see it as a way to load the player down with tasks for the sake of gameplay hours even though it has no real quality. They need to go more towards the style of Elder Scrolls and Witcher 3.
I'm so fucking tired of open world games, it feels like so many are these days.
I disagree.
For me, Open world are the future. Most games could be open world and i would be happy. Open world is a really good concept that no one tried (correctly) before GTA and show how you can have fun in a large but detailed and beautiful world.
Semi open world like MGS5 are perfect, excepted that in the case of MGS5.. you had nothing to do other than capture outpost and hunt animals. Where you should be doing more than that. It should not be repetitive.
I will never agree with that hate against open world games because there's as much bad linear games as open world, the two are not immune to bad games.
I hope it's the Fox Engine. The engine is just too good to be wasted :(
Sucker Punch? Is that something available to pros only? Or is it for anyone who wants to use it like Unity/UE4?
It's an in-house engine by Sucker Punch Productions. Sucker Punch Productions is now owned by Sony which is why Kojima would have access to it.

It's 100% not.

Depends how open-world it is and how much there is to do.
Maybe since Kojima'll be able to actually finish this game its open world'll actually have shit to do aside from punching animals and putting balloons on them.

Konami owns it, so, much like the MGSV franchise, it will definitely be wasted.

Considering he isn't Konami, I dunno, how about you take a guess.

probably because silent hills was canceled more than anything else.
also, i have one question: will there be memes?
I'm guessing that by "ropes" he means that the game is about supporting allies and gaining them.
In comparison to MGSV, I'd say it's about helping camps and building them up instead of wiping them out.
