IIRC it's been a couple hundred dollars cheaper to buy from certain retailers, lately. For two pretty-much-equivalent headsets, that's a big advantage.
I want to get a Vive because Oculus's proprietary bullshit pisses me off, but for a couple hundred bucks I'd have to go with Oculus.

Well Oculus/Facebook has relaxed their rules quite a bit. Many people refuse to buy the Oculus because of Facebook but on the other hand Oculus gave funds to some developers to make games for their system that the Vive can also use (being through a third party program that is) and the games that were eventually created out of it were incredible like Lone Echo and Robo Recall
Being disappointed at Valve in general is enough for me not to want to get a Vive.
