Not Phoenix, but most players that pick it, they usually have no idea what the hero does and just pick it because it's new.
Anyway, I always practice with bots before playing online with a hero I'm not used to, it's what most people should do.
It's annoying really, because I can actually play Phoenix, but some moron on the other team instalocks Phoenix so I can't.
Fortunately this means I can just easily counter pick them as I know all the good counters, so I don't really mind.

I played a few hours solo in bot making sure I know what all his skills do and what items synergise well with him. 100% win rate so far in online matches :v:
it's good to see new heros but sadly the game just got bad with it's awful community, if only the community speak English in most of my games, not always filled with feeders, ping spammers, and trolls left and right, I'll play DOTA 2 a lot... but sadly, the world is full of assholes then there are good people with good sportsmanship.

Don't play all pick. The better players (and generally all round nicer people) play Captains/Captains Draft.

I wouldn't say there's outright more of them, they just speak louder than the nicer/better players, making them a more noticeable "feature" of the community.
