So I currently have an nVdia geForce 6150 SE which, I'm not techno savvy, but I don't think that its very up to date, and I'm getting low frame rates in newer games such as Team Fortress 2, but not in others like Counter Strike Source. I want to stick with nVdia because that's what I have been using for a while now and I don't have any complaints. If necessary I'm running : Windows Vista 64bit 4 Gb ram AMD Athalon Dual Core 64 Processor I'm looking for a card that will work for me for at least 2 years. Also I would prefer to keep it under 200$
Budget, when are you buying this, and where do you live, what's your power supply? ATI: 4850. Nvidia:GTX275
Updated OP, but under 200$ would be mostly what I'm looking for, and I plan on buying it in the next month, located on US East Coast.
Post your PSU. For 190$, a 48901GB.
the gtx 275 is a better card for the price.
I thought the 4890 > GTX275 yet is worse than 285.
Post your PSU. For 190$, a 48901GB.
I honestly have no idea what that means.
Your Power-Supply unit. Post how many watts it is, and how much Amperage is on your 12v rail. It'll be 12v@XX
An ATI Radeon HD 4890 with 1GB of VRAM Or did I misinterpret?
This is humbling, how would I find that out?
What AMD dual core? They've made dozens; it's hard to tell what it would bottleneck.
AMD Athalon (TM) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+ 2.30 GHz
oh your better off with a 4850, you're bottlenecked to hell, if you get anything higher than that.
So it's socket 939...I was going to suggest a phenom II and 4850; but since you can't really upgrade the CPU, just get a 4850 as it won't be bottlenecked terribly.
GTX 260 for the budget.
GTX 260 for the budget.
what [editline]10:35PM[/editline] 1. GTX 260 is a terrible value 2. A Socket 939 athlon would bottleneck it.
I would get a 4850 or a 4670.
Budget, when are you buying this, and where do you live, what's your power supply? ATI: 4850. Nvidia:GTX275
Agree. I had the same issue, and bought the GTX275. great price, great performance. It's the cheaper brother of the GTX280. It has almost the same performance, but just a couple of megabytes less RAM. Also the temps are much lower.
Budget, when are you buying this, and where do you live, what's your power supply? ATI: 4850. Nvidia:GTX275
no GTX 275 competes with the 4890 GTX 260 competes with the 4870 4850 competes around the area of a GTS 250, maybe a bit lower
god you're fucking dumb
Just for posting that makes you look silly.
and why exactly...? [editline]06:51PM[/editline] he constantly gives out incorrect information and shitty advice
and why exactly...? [editline]06:51PM[/editline] he constantly gives out incorrect information and shitty advice
No he doesnt. And if so, correct him in a proper way, instead of "god you're so fucking dumb". How would you expect people to take you serious?
if you would care to actually look past that part of my post, you'll see where I did correct him
I think everyone is forgetting the 4770 here, it was released a while ago. It's almost as powerful as the 4850, it's cheaper, doesn't consume nearly as much power, nor does it create as much heat.
it's almost as powerful but not cheaper newegg: cheapest 4770s (in fact every 4770) is $110 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102835 cheapest 4850 is $95 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102824 [editline]09:15PM[/editline] the only time they're worth it is if your PSU isn't up to scratch for a 4850 but is for the 4770 you sacrifice a little power for not having to buy a new PSU
A quick question, would a GTS 250 outperform my 8800GT? By a longshot?
A GTS 250 is a re-branded 9800 GTX, so it would outperform your 8800GT. Not by a lot though.
A GTS 250 is a re-branded 9800 GTX, so it would outperform your 8800GT. Not by a lot though.
Yeah. The GTS series are just re-branded 9800's. Def not worth buying. Get a GTX260 instead
gts is rebranded tihs automaticly mean it suk
Yeah. The GTS series are just re-branded 9800's. Def not worth buying. Get a GTX260 instead
Or, get the 4870 1GB, which is cheaper and performs better than the GTX 260.
