I have friends with no affinity to tech who tried it and they loved it.
Even my fucken mom liked it.
I've still yet to try it, I really want to
I tried it when i playtested a game currently in development.
It felt amazing doing normal things that we take for granted in alot of games.
Did you guys forget this motherfucker builds rockets that go to space and shit?

That's Elon Musk, not John Carmack.
Edit: I am so wrong.

His hobby is rocket science and that is the least impressive work he did, think about it. Btw he also does judo and jiu-jitsu http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X68Mm_kYRjc

Imagine once the consumer product is released, and the metric shit square tonnes of money that they get from it. It's really starting to look like there will be a bright future for oculus.
It can only get better from here, oculus 2, 3, oculus with 8k tech. Shooters made directly for the Oculus, competative oculus gaming etc. There are seemingly endless applications for this technology.
eagerly waiting for the consumer release
and for the virtual worlds in sci-fi to be sci-fi no more
Does Carmack ever NOT have a smug smile on his face? :v:

Carmack deserves every little bit of smugness that he puts out. He is a God.
The DK1 was enough to convince me the future of gaming doesn't need a traditional monitor, it needs a Rift. I wanted to get the DK2 to get a taste of the improvements, but at this point I'll just save the cash for the consumer version. I'm getting one of these things as soon as I can.
I'm gonna be devil's advocate here and say that the one thing the Rift needs above all else is easy support for existing games. The oculus will die on its feet if all you can play on it are obscure indie games made specifically for it.
It's not going to happen, the only reason games like Half Life 2 or Team Fortress 2 have support is because VALVe is sharing development research and information with Oculus. At the same time, Oculus develops the hardware, and the SDK for developers to add their own support to their games, they don't add support themselves. You'll have to look at vorpX or Razer to save your old games from being left out of the VR gold rush.
someone better make an Oculus mod for GZDoom or something, it would only fit.
plus i'm sure people still love doom unless the rock i've been living under is out of date
I tried it at my college and I didn't really like it.
Which really annoys me because I was really hyped to use it and then I used it and I found it pretty meh. It must have been the game I was playing or the fact that there were other people around me but I just didn't feel the need to move my head around a lot.
I was playing a first person zombie shooter that would aim based on the position of your head, which ran on a laptop, so I'd say it was the games fault. I still wanna get one though.
yeah that probably was far from the best game to demonstrate it on
I only tried DK1 on that rollercoaster demo thing and immediately fell in love
I tried out a dev kit 1, and I didn't feel anything, I could use it and jumped behind a person's back to try and throw myself up but to luck I can use VR just fine. I think the tech demo that I had to work with wasn't great and it was using razors to make spheres.
I'll wait until I can get my hands on a better version, but at least I can say there wasn't a wow factor but neither it's garbage.
What I can say if you can connect it wirelessly to an rc plane for FOV, it would be better then the other competitor's experience like fatshark.

I can't wait for the release version.

and with openmw 1.0 on its way the future of morrowind looks better n bettter :allears:

There won't be just indie games. Oculus is in talks with a bunch of AAA companies that are developing for VR as we speak, nobody knows what companies they are though exactly. They've sent a bunch of their top of the line Crescent Bay prototypes to their closest partners as well. They're also in talks with Nvidia and AMD on supporting VR on a hardware level.
You won't be playing the current Call of doodies or Battlefields in VR but you might be playing a secret Blizzard VRMMO for all we know. Once they launch the consumer version, everything will be revealed and I'm sure we will see those big devs coming out of the closet with their VR projects.
The waifu age is fucking here.
Tried google cardboard and im already a believer.
The waifu age is fucking here.
The fact their are fucking god damn fuck machines+VR porn games already is just the funniest shit. As soon as Oculus was going around some of the first shit was fucking porn games with fuckable peripherals.
In all honesty though, I think the VR porn industry is gonna be fucking BOOMING.

Oculus is working with a bunch of AAA developers who are making games from the ground up with VR in mind. At the time of release, there will be plenty more than just indie games for it.
Not gonna lie. Kinda want to pick one up just for Elite and Star Citizen.
why would you lie?

My brother showed me this when he got his DK1

I almost hurled when i flipped it, i've never got motion sickness apart from boats, so i'm super stoaked for a consumer version, shit feels real yo, just gimmie a better resolution.
