Jedi Knight series has this almost mystical property to it that makes it worth beating and then afterwards fucking around with
I mentioned this in the GOG thread, but I'll say it here as well.
I do recommend getting the GOG versions of any of the pre-2000 games as they have fixes that are not present in the steam versions of the same games.

I think that one of the best parts of it is the sheer fluidity of combat for sabers. The gunplay is good, but just a little dated. The sword combat is probably, to this day, the best there has ever been. It's so immersive and there's an actual, obvious, skill to be learned.
That, and the community was so rich and full of life. I've met some of my best friends in JKA, and I'm really bummed that the community has gotten so small. I have no hope for a community if EA makes a remake. No mods, no private servers, and probably not the same combat mechanics. It would ruin a significant portion of my fondest childhood memories.

I don't understand this mind set?
How would it ruin your memories? EA can't just pluck them out of your head, you'll still have them. The old games will still exist no-one is taking them from you.
If they make a new game just don't play it.

Anyways mods and servers would be up to the developer not EA
Plus Battlefield 3 and 4 have custom-ish servers. Owners and change settings.

Pfft fuck no, allegedly EA is the reason we still have Battlefield Premium, and they're certainly why BF1 has no thirdparty servers. There's no chance in hell they, as the ones with the rights, would allow mod tools and shit.

DICE is owned by EA so that doesn't count, they're not independent.
And DICE have already given reasons why you can't mod the games. They use third party tools that cost a lot to license. They also use server farms and such to build maps

It's one of those games that really benefited from being created in its era in a really fucking awesome way too
it creates many issues but also works in its favor oddly. It's hard to explain but the kind of fun it generates isn't really replicatable in games today.
