When I go to play source games (or CoD4), there is a point in there where the game "crashes" and the goes back to normal, except L4D which crashes and stays crashed. The "crashes" last about 3 or 4 seconds (10 at most) but are still annoying as shit. I'm wondering what the issue is, which is why I turn to you.
Specs.
Q6600 (not oc'd)
4Gb ddr2 800
9800GT (fan on 90% not going over 54C while gaming) (idle without my vornado is 60c)
Vista 64bit
Things I've done/tried
1. Driver update
2. Graphics settings set to lowest
3. Heat management
Any and all help is appreciated
Define your "crash".

Everything stops, sometimes goes black, than starts up again. I have rules out lag since I am not in a different location when it starts back up again
Could be a problem with your paging file:

Make sure it's not a stupid size like 0 MB.

Do you have Vista service pack 2?
try disabling a core as I had issue with left 4 Dead. Go task manager right click on the game process and go to properties. Then select Set Affinity and try disabling a core. Worked for me.
Maybe your graphics drivers are crashing, happens often on my laptop and occasionally on my desktop, try removing all drivers (graphics) and then reinstalling them making sure you remove all files aswell as uninstalling them.
