Even if the game does have a few issues, it is still fantastic
The game has such a good atmosphere, when the Alien is around.
It also deserves credit for being one of the few games where the E3 and press footage wasn't a lie.

It really depresses me that needed to be said. What the fuck is the games industry even doing anymore.

After the half of the game, the Alien just became more irritating for me, than just scary. The robots as well were such a bore to deal with.

I've played it for 28 hours, and I've pretty much found every minute of it interesting and absolutely terrifying
they've implemented the alien pretty much exactly how I wished they would, instead of relying on jump scares and such, the fear and stress is instead induced by the fact that you know it's around somewhere, you can hear it crawl around within the vents, and later on you can also get a pretty good idea of where it's at using the motion tracker, but you're never quite sure where or when it'll show up, or if it will at all
then it's also the fact that it kind of adapts to the way you play, you can't constantly rely on the motion tracker, for example, as it will then eventually learn to listen for the sounds it makes, thus finding out where you are
and you may be able to trick it with things such as flares and flashbangs a couple of times, then it backfires on you, as it realizes you're the one throwing them
And while the game does have it's flaws, like any other, I didn't really have any problems with the androids. I personally think they added a lot to the claustrophobic and generally creepy atmosphere, and they were pretty easy to get past most of the time
If anything I found the other survivors and the xenomorph's behaviour around them a lot more annoying, as it would sometimes target you in particular as soon as it heard/saw you, even though it was under fire by a bunch of revolver wielding morons standing right next to it
things like that have probably been patched out by now, though
From a technical standpoint it's also really great, the sound design and quality is absolutely astounding, it looks great, and the PC port is definitely one of the best ones in years.
My only disappointment with it was that you could only choose between post-FX anti-aliasing such as FXAA, with no option for high-quality AA techniques such as MSAA. Then again you can always create a custom resolution that's higher than your monitor's resolution using the Nvidia control panel or the Catalyst control panel, thus forcing an SSAA effect, so it's pretty easy to fix if it bothers you too much
[sp]Some people have also said that they found the parts after you get rid of the first alien really boring, which I highly disagree with. I found them extremely tense, and I expected the motion tracker to suddenly go off showing signs all over the place.
it was like a calm before the storm thing, and I was 100% convinced that the initial xenomorph had managed to reproduce, what with all the hints about people mysteriously disappearing without any signs of violence in the beginning of the game, and surprise surprise, I was right
the idea and design behind the xenomorph as a monster is still pretty much state of the art when it comes to inflicting terror into the audience, not only is it an extremely creepy and dangerous predator, it's also a literal rapist[/sp]
Then there's also a problem with the difficulty settings, where you have to use "Hard" to play it properly, seeing as "Easy" and "Normal" sets the alien to "clueless idiot" mode, using which you pretty much need to put effort into making it notice you
The only time this game scared me was when the alien clipped up through the floor and ceiling while roaring right in front of me. While not a scary game(no jumpscares), it is very tense and it makes you feel alone and helpless
The game really really is great but unfortunately it goes bad after the [sp]alien hive[/sp].
I restarted a game on Nightmare mode and am loving every second of it. You really have to watch what you craft and weigh your options on what you know you'll need, and what you think you can get away without using. The Alien is a bastard though. Lockers don't mean shit anymore. The game's art direction is especially noteworthy, they nailed that late 70's aesthetic.
Easily game of the year for me. I just wish they'd release the damn soundtrack already.
This is probably my GOTY as well. Unfortunately, that's not saying much, considering the sub-par releases we've gotten these last twelve months.
Nevertheless though, I really enjoyed this. It almost felt like Creative Assembly did a better job BECAUSE they didn't make FPS games or horror games. They probably went off experience they had with more classic horror games, which is definitely a smart fucking thing to do.
I just can't enjoy this kind of games. They are too slow and boring. The only plus is feeling of suspense. But it is based around scares. Also scares. Just nope. The reason i didn't enjoy Amnesia or Penumbra.
The article says the concept sounded like a recipe for disaster, but when I first heard about a survival horror Alien game featuring one xenomorph, I was over the moon. This was the Aliem game I've always wanted.

I loved it! It showed just how fucked Sevastopol was.
Played this from start to finish and loved every bit of it. Stunning atmosphere the whole way through, run perfectly, and the gameplay was for me anyway, suspenseful and fun.
I want a second I hope it take's just as long as well and maybe more like Aliens instead of Alien.
The only niggle I have with the game is that the alien has a bit of ESP and will always gravitate towards your general direction. I understand why this needs to be done - unlucky players would end up with the alien never being near them, and then call the game broken - but I wish there was a better method to it.
