So yeah, basically I have this urge for some reason to play an RTS type game all the sudden even though I never play them. Because I never play them I want something that's not overly complex and pretty easy to get into but still fun.
Some things that look interesting are the Total War and Company of Heroes games, but there's so much I don't what fits my description. Also I would prefer something < $20
Any RTS guys out there have some suggestions that might be good for someone who doesn't play RTS games?
Warcraft 3 just for customs, but im not sure how it is now since its been so long
Any of the Civ games. Be warned, these take up immense amounts of time, i spent 9 hours on one civilization in Civ 5, I achieved nuclear weapons and tanks, then i won by domination, was hard too because if you try to do that, you lose your allies.
Company of Heroes I found to have the perfect mix of easy to get into but still complex enough that it doesn't feel dumbed down.
Age of Empires 2.
Medieval 2 total war.
Honestly.
Its good.
And got 40 billion mods, with a complete overhaul that recreates the entirety of middle earth and the third age.
Dota 2 :v:
Apparently I got a free copy of Men of War from Green Man Gaming so I'm going to try that out right quick.
If I don't like it, I'll check out some of the suggestions here.

Best RTS of all time.[/QUOTE]
Going to expand off of this,
Rise of Legends.

Clockwork robot making humans, with magical desert nomads, and Space alien Mayans. And it kicks ass.
Don't get RA3
My friend and I bought it to play together... and... it's the worst
I actually enjoyed RA3. Uprising however.. dear god. There's so many endgame units you've lost before you even started.
Farmville.
The Sims
No, I'm not joking.
Cossacks: Back to War.
It's a pretty great RTS.
Age of Mythology.

This!
And Red Alert 2.
But never Red Alert 3.
AI War : Fleet Command
Its learning curve is steep as hell, but once you get the basics down it's hella fun with a friend.
