I have a first gen ipod touch and want to use a mic and some headphones at the same time, is it possible? can I do it cheaply?

Should I get this:

or this:

And would it work?

Anyone?
All I need to know is if it will work? can I do it if I had the splitter, mic and headphones?
I see it as a 50/50
I personally wouldn't recommend trying it.
I searched around google quickly and couldn't find any results if it worked.
But my first iPod was 4g so I wouldn't know really.

No, it will not work. You'll have to find a mic that connects to the dock connector. They use to make them, but I'm not sure if they still exist.
Having an output device and input device wired in parallel poses problems. The iPod will try use the mic as a speaker. Wouldn't try it.
I tried my official Apple headphones with inline mic and music control. Neither worked, only the output to headphones did. I too have a first gen iPod.
