Hopefully they'll offer some of the really old material for download. Should be interesting.
Always weird when the BBC reports on themselves. Like that time there was that controversy over newsreaders' pay.
They're pretty good at it though
Great news, now there will be more content for the iplayer!
Fuck yeah 25 years of Eastenders
Neat to see a company actually keeping up with the times for once.
Red Dwarf and Blackadder marathon.
Being able to watch every Dr.Who episode right back to the beginning would be pretty amazing, I own all the current seasons on DVD.
Now Dave's going to be out of business :v:

Most of the older episodes were destroyed.

A lot have been found in various forms and put back in the archive. the majority of the first and second doctor's episodes still exist.
Classic Doctor Who, pretty please?
Will this include the new Sherlock Holmes?
Most of the older episodes were destroyed.
Not really most
He added that the digital archive would stay open for good, and shows would remain available to licence fee payers.
They should be free to download for licence fee payers, afterall, we did fucking fund all of them.

That's pretty sad, most of the people who was around back then (and old enough to understand them at the time) aren't alive to enjoy the new amazing series we have today.
And most who are alive to enjoy the series today are born too late to even see the original episodes.

that creeps me out. dunno why but the idea that there's no surviving footage is just spooky to me.
Friends and Blackadder marathon.

I think fans of the original show would tear their eyes out at the sight of the new hip doctor and his retarded companions.
I like how they use "relatively modest" instead of "modest" to describe the pricing. Probably gonna be overpriced for what they are considering I can download films for 20p on the android market but we'll see.

By that logic all BBC DVDs and Blu-Rays should be free to fee-paying UK citizens. Never heard anyone complain about that one.
Red Dwarf and Blackadder marathon.
I've already got all of the episodes from each series on DVD, including specials such as the Blackadder Christmas Carol.

Won't happen though, there's a lot of episodes that no one has. Damn the BBC for not thinking that recording stuff for the future was important :(
Yeah damn them for thinking that when buying new new negative reels was very expensive, they had new shows to shoot, and syndication of those episodes had dried up.
