Why does every TF2 update break everything?
Engine updates. Gmod runs the TF2 engine, so when they push new engine changes, garry has to update gmod to work with them.

Yeah I just usually don't think of some of the updates they put out as engine updates, they usually seem like features that are just added to the game with the existing engine
I don't read changelogs very often though, w/e
Why can't Valve (if they didn't already) give Garry more time to check for problems with Gmod when TF2 updates? They know this happens a lot.

As nice as it would be, it would be a waste of time for them to make sure that every mod would be fully prepared for the incoming changes caused by their updates, especially since if you do things that way, their release schedule is fully dependent on how quickly the mod developers can adapt to the new changes.

While I agree with you, it is a for-sale game, so it's a little different than the other free mods out there. Valve actually cares slightly about gmod's reputation.
However, will gmod get a slight performence boost hence the "improvements" made by valve on the engine?

Right, but the argument was for giving Garry a heads up before they release engine changes, so he can get a headstart on getting it up to speed, so that things like this don't happen.

Not for or against using the TF2 engine.
Out of curiosity Garry, will this still happen now that you're shipping your own engine binaries?

When he's going to ship with his own version of the engine, gmod probably won't update automaticlly with the newest valve has. Garry probably has to merge it himself.
Thanks Garry! It's great to see that you're so quick on this problem and trying to fix it already.
Keep it up man!
