How should I get rid of my fear of stray dogs?
I was never scared, until about a few months ago, probably because of all these stories about people getting attacked, and this mainly (funny but also scary)

I really want to hang out with friends, but this is limiting me alot, also can someone tell me the odds of a stray dog, in Australia, or even Victoria?
I never have seen a stray dog, excluding the one that now lives in my house. (and the ones I saw in Mexico) It's very rare to see them unless you live in a poor country. Pounds and people usually pick them up.
Don't be a pussy. Seriously.
Act like that guy and chase the dogs.
I'm pretty impressed that that guy had the wit to recreate those dogs on TV
In all honesty get pepper spray, carry one of those dog whistles(no idea if that would work) or the ipod/iphone app that makes the really high pitched noise that only dogs can hear.
I can't, just how do I get rid of my fear without buying anything.

And an answer that is at least has a 80% of working.
Wrestle one and you'll feel like a man
i did this with spiders, it works
Adopt one and become his friend.
I mean when I'm riding a bike, or just walking around, I fear that a dog, will come out, and probably attack me, and they are vicious, evil predators (well some of them, not all), plus the fact that I already have a dog.
Your bigger, let them know that. Make noise as well.
Move out of the ghetto.
Noise would probably attract them if escaping, and they'd attack you, most likely anyway, and I have no idea what ghetto means, I live in a nice suburb, not poor.
If you want to see my street, type this in google maps ''Kennedy Parade Roxburgh Park Victoria Australia'' But if you want to see the surburb, just cut out kennedy parade from it.
Eat one.
what the fuck? arent stray dogs usually skinny + malnourished.
they're not vicious killing machines

also you live near tullamarine, isnt that a lower class area?
I need some serious answers, and I thought stray dogs, was pretty much all abandoned dogs, but thats why I use to call them Wild Dogs, but I figured stray dogs is better.
I guess its not.
And tullarmarine, I don't know if it is.
Strays usually mean that they are away from home for a while. This means that they still have domesticated feelings. The most they might do is playfully nibble at you, jump up on you, bark at you, or just sit back and watch you, miserable. Now, ferals, those guys you have to watch for. Just remember: Don't look them in the eyes, and don't run away with your back turned.
Adopt every single stray dog you see. No more stray dogs, only homed ones.
Play Stalker. Start killing the stray ones in it.
Then slowly, start killing dogs IRL.
Live amongst them. Learn their ways. Mate with their women.
Stray dogs are controlling major cities. If you ever come across one just lie down by it.
Make a thread about it.
The only time I've been worried about a dog was one that had got out of its yard, it was fucking huge, if the owner hadn't showed up when he did I definitely would have been mauled. Scariest 3 minutes of my life.
I don't think you need to worry about it though that wasn't a stray and I live fairly close to you.
dude if a stray runs toward you stay the fuck still. they are faster and take it as a good meal because it runs and shit.

Unless there's a tree or something really close you can get into easily.
Pokeman, where do you live?
Melbourne, have you actually seen any strays?
The animal control people are probably more active here.
In fact I'm pretty sure I've never seen any strays around here, at least not any aggressive enough to get noticed.
Yes I have, one on the paddock (Husky, I think, not sure though), and another when I was just going out my street, a dog (don't know) going through the street. I was in a car that time though.
When I saw the Husky, I was at the front door, and the husky was walking across, the other time me being in the car, well, my dad said go away stupid dog, but I'm just not getting scared because I know I'm safe.
Oh, and where abouts in melbourne?
You let a pack of wild dogs rape you like in those beastiality stories where the victim "couldn't get away"
Rape one.
What the fuck just kick them in the face or snap their neck. God you really wouldn't want to live in romania theres so many stray dogs that walk around here you would say their people.
It sounds like a means to ATTRACT stray dogs, but if you can, carry small amounts of food with you. That way if a dog finds their way towards you, you can mostly likely hurl the food away from you and split while the dog is distracted.
Honestly, unless YOU come across a stray dog, a stray dog will avoid you as much as possible. They're usually timid, only concerned with finding something to eat or a place to lay down, they're not all out to get you. The only kind of dog that would probably come after you is one that has escaped from its yard. Strays don't attack for no reason unless you get too close to a mate, puppies, food, or their "territory".
If you see a stray dog, just keep walking away from it and don't make eye contact. Stray dogs see random people every day of their lives. The chances that they'll see you as a meal and go after you are extremely slim. But NEVER start running. Dogs like to chase things and whether it's going to attack you or not, it will probably start chasing you just for fun. So don't. Just keep walking calmly and if you can, go into a store or restaurant for a few minutes until the dog goes on its way.
Don't be afraid of stray dogs. They usually want nothing to do with you. I've worked with dogs for 5+ years and never have I been attacked by a stray when I was out walking.
