does it have "making [del]contacts for PR[/del] friends with critics" part of the making of?
I still hate how this game is STILL being brought up as some kind of prodigy of gaming. At best it was mediocre, and in my opinion it's awful, and I bring it up every time another freakin' news article is posted about it.
First I read about it being all eerie and shit and I'm like to my gf "yo heard this game is all horror n shit let's do it" an hour later we were disappointed angsty teenage lesbians
First I read about it being all eerie and shit and I'm like to my gf "yo heard this game is all horror n shit let's do it" an hour later we were disappointed angsty teenage lesbians
B-b-but we're being progressive! Here's a hint to future developers. You have to make a good product. Making a mediocre or even bad product can hurt your message, because everyone will associate that message with a shitty product. Also, does anyone know if they actually got the rights to those magazine clippings? Seems like they wouldn't have the budget.
I thought this article would simply be a collection of random items we pick up and spin around in an effort to understand a poorly structured narrative, after which we proclaim it as the greatest article ever written and shower it with meaningless accolades.
Wouldn't it essentially be more progressive to not have your game's big plot twist not be about your sister being a lesbian? It shouldn't be a big deal enough to have that be the big fucking thing of the game.
Just wait till the Dlc about the Gay Cyberbully of a brother comes out of the closet. Just one more step towards making gaming better and more accepting Rrright? i'm so glad i watch a play through of the game even that was boring always waiting for something to happen but no, nothing no bang no boom no pow.. thats what games need to be remembered. I'd rather learn about how Home Free was made then this.
I think for some folks they just wanted a "art" game, like a game that looks like art, not a game like Bioshock that's a FPS that is also artistic from having a great environment and story with memorable characters. A story like Gone Home is good for a Sundance Indie Movie, not an interactive piece of media. If if you want to touch a subject matter in gaming, do it in a way that doesn't make you look pretentious.
the making of gone home: press w to move forward
the making of gone home: press w to move forward
Left Click to wait for the horror game to happen. Right Click to be dissapointed when you're given a shit indie story.
yeah i cant imagine why being a lesbian in a military family in the 90's was a big deal for a teenager
The game wasn't released in the 90's by a military family.

Did a mod change the title? :vs:
so does that mean mgsv shouldn't make a big deal about soviets because the soviet union doesnt exist anymore i dont know what you're trying to say
No, its more like pointing out that MGSV using the Soviets as a bad guy isn't anything new or original or creative given how its used constantly in media and at this point everyone knows about the Soviet Union and Cold War era. Gone Home is the same thing. The topic of sexuality and acceptance of it is everywhere in the media and was before Gone Home did it. Gone home broke no new ground, revolutionized nothing in gaming or storytelling, it did nothing. If you don't understand what I am saying, its a problem with you alone.
I don't really think Gone Home is a bad game, in fact it really indulges on an element that has always been sort of an afterthought in terms of video game storytelling, which is telling a sort of secondhand story through the environment. Even then, it's pretty damn overrated, and it received praise for all the wrong reasons, the story itself being fairly mediocre, so it's really a victim of its own success. But yeah, there are things that can be learned from the game. Other games have done the "storytelling via secondary sources thing", but I can't say any game has built its story entirely upon that philosophy, so kudos to whatever the fuck hipster-ass studio put this together. Too bad all the positives of the game will be lost in the drama surrounding its released until long in the future. It's either praised or hated in spite, not for its own merits. Its subject matter is just too political and topical.
The game that triggered gamers worldwide into starting a movement. truly a monumental piece Either way, I didn't think there would be anything interesting about the development of Gone Home, mainly because it doesn't do anything regarding design or tech that hasn't been done before. It seems Joe Donnely doesn't either, since he spends the first half of the article giving me the life stories of two entirely uninteresting developers. Then the next half explains a few more interesting ideas they had before deciding putting together anything beyond a 90s house with some basic interactive objects in it would be a daunting task. Tacoma could be good, mainly because of the fact they're actually trying this time around.
why do people get so mad about this game lol, it's fine to think it's overrated (it is) but some of you literally start frothing at the mouth any time it's mentioned
Just because that, it's ovverated and got top praise over other solid indie hits at the time, like Stanley Parable.
Did a mod change the title? :vs:
Made my evening
I thought Gone Homo would be the sequel or something.
I was so disappointed by the plot twist, I was thinking oh shit some crazy stuff has gone down and they're probably all dead or something There's all this build up to you going into the attic when it just turns out that your sister is gay (who gives a shit) and went to meet her girlfriend, you're just reading from her diary, and there was a note on a whiteboard or something that said the parents had gone out somewhere. I was just like "oh, ok then? is that it?" what a fucking let down I was enjoying it up until then too
Need we say more?
why do people get so mad about this game lol, it's fine to think it's overrated (it is) but some of you literally start frothing at the mouth any time it's mentioned
Because it got contender for "Game Of The Fucking Year" when at its core it could literally be a fucking gmod prophunt map lol. [editline]4th October 2015[/editline]
so does that mean mgsv shouldn't make a big deal about soviets because the soviet union doesnt exist anymore i dont know what you're trying to say
By the way, MGSV didnt make a big deal out of the soviets, the main plot was making a big deal about the topics of Race and Revenge.
Why did everyone think this was a horror game?
Honestly, Gone Home was disappointing. Instead of what could have been an increasingly terrifying murder story, it turned in a lesbian love story, that at this point is a downright cliché. Yes, it's a game. Game of the year material? No.
