First, I'm trying to share a hard drive (D:/ on local computer) via homegroups in a private local network. The hard drive itself is a secondary one, with windows xp installed on it. It's on a Windows 7 RC x64 desktop computer, and trying to share with a Windows Vista home basic x86 laptop. It's all set up, we can acess eachother public files, but when we try to acess the D drive on the desktop from the laptop, it doesn't work, because there's no permission to do so. I've added each folder to shared files (except WINDOWS/, of course) with full permissions to everybody in the network (It's wired, so don't worry with security issues)
I've tried a lot of things, like disabling UAC on both computers, but it didn't work. Still acess denied. Any idea?

Not really with homegroups, using normal file share by private network. As I said, only windows public files can be read/modified.
On the windows 7 machine go to "Control Panel"> "Network and Internet"> "Network and Sharing Center" then on the left click "Advanced Sharing Options". Click the drop down for "Home or Work", then go down to "File Sharing Connections" and check "Enable file sharing for devices that use 40- or 56-bit encryption". Also go down to "Password protected sharing" and check the "Turn off password protected sharing" bubble.
Also, when sharing a folder right click it and go to "Properties" then to the "Sharing" tab. Click "Share..." and click "Add" and type "Everyone" and give it "Read" or "Read/Write" Permission.
Hope this helps!
