• My Internet Connection Ain't Working Properly

So, since yesterday, I haven't been able to browse the internet correctly. Steam was downloading the TF2 update, so I had internet, but when I tried to get to a site, it immediately gave me the "Server Not Found" message. Last night I stay up until 11PM with relatively no success but managing to get the modem configuration as it was. I tried connecting the modem directly to this PC, nothing changed. I could enter a forum, but a few seconds after I did so, the local network (the modem one) dropped. This morning I wake up and here I am, I can enter Facepunch. Google, though, doesn't respond. My modem is an ADSL Siemens SpeedStream 4200, my [recently bought] router is a D-Link DIR-600. I need help, guys, desperately. [editline]12:30PM[/editline] OK so I tried to go to an outside site (ZDNet) and it loaded REALLY slow, only text and... bam connection dropped.
You should try calling your ISP's tech support line. Someone could be leeching from your connection too.
I don't know if it's on my ISP. And Wi-Fi is secured, and even after plugging the modem directly on my PC shit was still strange, so I don't believe it's a leeching problem. [editline]12:47PM[/editline] I just managed to get to steampowered.com, the homepage is text-and-images-only, but the Login, Account parts are working :iiam: [editline]12:50PM[/editline] I can't reach Google, GMail. Jesusfuckingchrist what the hell is going on [editline]12:52PM[/editline] Not even through a proxy site. :ohdear:
OK, so I can get to play TF2 without having a connection drop. Can access Google, after F5'ing like crazy. When I enter other sites, though, connection drops. I think it might be my modem.
I think it might be your dns
It's probably your DNS, open up CMD as administrator and type in:
ipconfig /flushdns
Nothing changed. I can't get to MSN or Wurm. Funny, though, a few minutes ago I noticed regular speed is back, and I can enter any site again.
Nothing changed. I can't get to MSN or Wurm. Funny, though, a few minutes ago I noticed regular speed is back, and I can enter any site again.
Probably got throttled for a bit there.
Check your phones dial tone when this happens if it's crackling tell your ISP to replace the thing. If so it's Fucked. We had the same problem.
Check with your IPS, i had the same thing happen to me a few months back. Like it was half the speed it was usually and i had a 24 meg line. Apparently though, i was using the internet to download too much lol or something like that - maybe i have it mixed up with another occassion. But anyway, they knew they had reduced my line speed and in effect reduced my monthly fee. So you should probably check with ISP first.
DSL runs through phone lines, so there is traffic, just like Dial up. You may have had traffic back there. Also, 1000 post count.
You reckoon you got it bad. Im downloading TF2 at 3.2 Kb/s
You reckoon you got it bad. Im downloading TF2 at 3.2 Kb/s
Ow :S Could be mostly down to steam though - there servers seem to be always slow... well at least for me.
You reckoon you got it bad. Im downloading TF2 at 3.2 Kb/s
How long will that take?
There nothing where is says time remaining -.-
Ow :S Could be mostly down to steam though - there servers seem to be always slow... well at least for me.
I don't think it is, I always get reasonable to good download speeds from them, meaning always somewhere between 500KB/s and 2MB/s.
Well i plugged my computer into the modem and i was getting 891 kb/s so i think its my router!
Try setting your DNS servers to OpenDNS' servers ( 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 ) in your router's setup page. My ISP's DNS was extremely shitty at one point, I switched to OpenDNS and it worked perfectly. If doing that doesn't work, try switching browsers.
pedroion, stop pretending to be a mod
I don't think it is, I always get reasonable to good download speeds from them, meaning always somewhere between 500KB/s and 2MB/s.
I'm the same, but at peak time I can't get over 200KB/s, which is kinda pathetic.
