Hello guys
I thought it was time to give my PC much needed upgrade as it's starting to chug on some more recent games. I've got a budget of around £350 although I can go a bit higher if needs be. I'm wanting to play the latest games at pretty damn good frame rates, so try to go with most bang for the buck.
Here are my current specs:
Nvidia 8800GT 512mb
Corsair TX650W
Asus P5N-D
2gb DDR2 RAM
Intel E4600 @ 2.4GHZ (2 cores)
320gb HDD
As for parts I can salvage, I already have the GPU (AMD Sapphire HD6850) and the PSU should be fine. I can also use the same case and DVD Drive but I'd like a 1tb HDD if you can fit it into the budget.
I'm in the UK, so pounds only please. Aside from that, I don't really mind where the parts come from.
So in a nutshell, what I'm wanting is smething along the lines of
i5 2500 with a new motherboard, ram and possibly a 1tb hdd for around £350.
Thanks a lot :D
EDIT: I've done some browsing and saw some of you lot are doing the same sort of upgrade as me. What do you guys make of this?

That looks like a pretty nice upgrade, but have you considered getting the 2500K for overclocking?
Yes I have, I'm just not interesting in OCing.
Pretty good. Since you are not overclocking, you could save some money and get a cheaper motherboard.
Yeah, if you're not overclocking then you don't need a p67 chip
Can you recommend me an alternative, please?
Oh, right now I'm using Windows 7 upgrade edition (upgraded from XP) it's also the 3 installation family pack. Would I need a new OS or would I be fine using the copy I have?
Don't get Extra Value RAM. Other than that, good picks
Changed the motherboard then.

Also thorwing in a Coolmaster 430 as everything's pretty close in this current casse.
If you guys are happy with this then I'll be able to order it in the next few days. What kind of framerates can I be expecting with that build with a HD6850 and a 650W psu on a game like STALKER Call of Pripyat or Bad Company 2?
You'll do fine on STALKER and Bad Company 2. Both are running on max at 1366x768 with some AA on Bad Company on a GTS 250 and 955 (my system).

PSU is a good brand right?
It's a Corsair TX650W, so yeah.
Here's my final build. Thanks for all the help :D

With that PSU and a Sapphire HD6850.
Hello again. Sorry for the double post.
I've got all the parts set up for Saturday which is when me and my dad are going to be putting the computer together. However, one thing that I just thought about was CPU cooling. The i5 2500 does come with its own cooler, but I've heard bad things about it. Will the stock cooler be fine for gaming and everything like that? I'm not going to be over clocking, so it doesn't need to handle that. I do have a big ass copper cooler from my old PC (Socket 775). Is that compatible with the new board? Or will the stock cooler work just fine?
Your socket 775 cooler won't work on your new i5, so you'll have to use the stock one. And generally, the stock coolers are fine anyway, since you're not planning on overclocking you should still get good temperatures under load with the stock cooler.
Got the PC all set up and running. It's really fantastic! I was just playing Black Ops at 60fps with absolutely no stuttering. Thanks a lot everyone who helped me pick all of the parts :)
