• Review my Build? Very Simple
    5 replies, posted
Hello, I am building a computer for my step dad and he is wanting to use it just to get on the internet, burn things, music, and watch HD movies. One thing he did mentioned though is that it looked cool (lol) and that it would be extremely fast. He does not want to play games on it at all. Can someone just review my build and tell me if everything will work with eachother and if you can get another item for a better value than please tell me? Greatly appreciated! Total : $402 Budget : < $1000 Thanks
If he wants it to be fast, you might want to consider spending a bit more money on the CPU. Also, if he wants to store a lot of HD movies, you can spend an extra $50 and get 500GB of storage. The RAM link you posted links to a motherboard on newegg by the way.

Is there any way I can get it to 300? I don't think I chose the best valued things.
Well, only because he's not using it for gaming, you might want to consider not spending money on a discrete graphics card and instead just getting a processor with built in graphics, though I'm really not sure whether that would end up costing you more or less. Also, for another $50 ish you could upgrade your optical drive to play blu-ray, something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106369.

I'd get a slightly better video card just so he can have better HD quality, like a 9500 GT or maybe a 5770.
