I'm going to buy new computer for 3d modelling and I have a budjet of 1000€. Can you tell most powerful parts that I can get with this money? (I live in Finland)
Do you need a monitor or any other peripherals? And is there anything you can reuse from your old computer (optical drive, hard drive, etc)?
I have everything else like keyboard, mouse, screen etc. I don't have any parts yet. So I don't need very expensive sound card or cd station but CPU and GPU must be powerful. (How I can get that avatar off?)
Kannattaa varmaa kattoa Jimms pc storesta. http://www.jimmspc-store.fi/ Tuolta sitte vaan kasaamaan.
For 3D modeling I'd say either Intel i7 930 or AMD Phenom II X6 1090T. Other is a powerful quad-core, other is a great hexa-core (6-core) processor. When all cores are stressed their performance is quite close. Here, have some benchmarks: Now I've got to say the i7 930 wins in 3dsmax 9 by 10%, but in other applications the Phenom is doing a bit better. In real life you won't notice a significant difference, but I'd personally go with Phenom II X6 1090T because it's faster in the applications I use, mainly Blender and LuxRender, it's your call. For a GPU, either a ATI HD 5850 1GB or NVIDIA GTX 460 1GB. In the near future both can be used in conjunction with the CPU to render the image (Yafaray, Indigo, iRay, LuxRender for example.), but for now the only one I've used is Octane Render and it only supports NVIDIA cards. From what I've seen the GTX 460 1GB is cheaper in verkkokauppa.com than HD 5850 1GB and it tends to be faster in gaming too so I'd go with that. I'd suggest a 880G chipset motherboard with USB 3.0 and 6 Gbps SATA ports so you can take advantage of future SSD drives and faster externals. Fractal Design Define R3 case because it's silent, built well and looks attractive. Kingston HyperX Blu DDR3 memory because it's affordable and you can add more later, whereas DDR2 will most likely be harder to get in few years. Samsung Spinpoint F3 for HDD because it's as fast as some VelociRaptors and I've never had one die on me, when WD Caviar Blues I've returned two times in four years, must've had bad luck but whatever. Go with this packet http://www.verkkokauppa.com/index.php?path=ostoskori&p_25850=1&p_33951=1&p_2548=1&p_19501=1&p_24713=1&p_34166=1&p_21016=1&fill_empty=1, you won't be needing another computer in a while.
I am not sure of what the good sites for europe are, but i found this. I don't do any 3D modeling so I don't know what is good for it and what is bad. But how do you know he is using 3dsmax and not some other program that takes advantage of 6 physical cores rather than 8 logical? I just threw my 2 cents in on what I would buy on his budget.

Also, you're not exactly helping OP by giving uninformed guesses about what should he be buying. On top of that a normal person who doesn't do overclocking doesn't need aftermarket CPU cooling, that's just a stupid trait you've picked up from Facepunch.
This is okay, but get this RAM: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-257-CS ]
Performance differences between different RAM modules are like what, A WHOLE PERCENT? Although it makes more sense since OCZ announced they'll be quitting RAM production, so warranty problems might ensue.
Performance differences between different RAM modules are like what, A WHOLE PERCENT?
It's not really the performance, it's the fact the the OCZ RAM isn't as good quality [editline]05:42PM[/editline] And also more expensive
And overclockers is a terrible site to shop at... use scan.
shipping costs to Finland are quite expensive, I'd buy the system from verkkokauppa.com. They're really laid back about warranties too.
And overclockers is a terrible site to shop at... use scan.
He's not buying from them, it's just being used as a parts list
shipping costs to Finland are quite expensive, I'd buy the system from verkkokauppa.com. They're really laid back about warranties too.
Verkkokauppa has rather high prices on some stuff, though. Also, Wiltzu, do you happen to be Viltzu? :D
What's different between these ones? http://www.overclockers.co.uk/productlist.php?groupid=701&catid=56&subid=1810 edit: Is gtx 470 really better than gtx 460? Different between prices is big.
