• Need motherboard recs

My current motherboard (Biostar TP43D2A7) is behaving very badly and I'm pretty sure it needs to be replaced ASAP. Right now I have an Asus 4870, a core 2 duo, and some DDR2 rams plugged into it. I was told I might need to get DDR3 ram since most of the new motherboards have that, and that's cool, I was thinking of upgrading this POS anyway, but motherboards are a mystery to me. I have no idea what I'm doing. Things I'd like to have: -Space for a big-ass GPU as well as a nice sound card. I don't have a sound card now but I regret the decision to rely on onboard. -One that doesn't fucking break like this one. Thanks Facepunch!

You'll only need DDR3 RAM with the newer sockets AM3/1156/1366, you'll be fine with DDR2 if you stick with socket 775.
This is pretty much what I have except mine is made by eVGA. Seems pretty reliable and if you're going to keep using your Core2 and DDR2 RAM, it'll all fit this board. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131232&Tpk=nvidia%20750i

I have an intel engineering board, and it's an LGA775 and takes DDR3. >_>

Is it really worth buying another 775 socket motherboard if he wants to upgrade?
Good question. How much is this going to affect my ability to upgrade in the future?
You wont be able to. 1156 is going down in a few months, 775 is pretty much a dead socket and 1336 is going summer next year. Go for Sandy Bridge if you can
Good question. How much is this going to affect my ability to upgrade in the future?
Well if you get a mobo that only supports DDR3 its gonna cost you more to upgrade later, since ddr2 is falling of the market soon i presume.
Like Luuper said, upgrading to a newer Intel board/CPU/RAM wont last that much longer if you want to upgrade later on, i'd suggest going for AMD or wait for Sandybridge in 2011.
I'm not following, are you saying I should wait another year with my broken motherboard? Cause I can't do that.
No, I think what they're saying is invest in a cheapass board now, to get by until SoggyBridge comes out. At that point do a total Intel upgrade on the new kit. What you have now does not have a good future upgrade path, in fact it has virtually no upgrade path.
