Goddamnit not you too Bioshock.
Oh God, something I don't have to buy that will ensure the developers work on content for a game in the future!
Oh God, something I don't have to buy that will ensure the developers work on content for a game in the future!
So you're saying that if they don't release a season pass, they are not insured to make dlc for the game AFTER the release?
I think the main problem with season pass DLC is that you don't know if it's gonna be good or shit, but that's like anything with the option to pre order aliens colonial marines duke nukem forever
sooooit makes the game easier?
None of those things sound appealing the the slightest. Gold skins? Did they even try?
You guys are getting all sassy. Infinite wont be lesser because of DLC, for fuck sakes in interviews with Ken Levine he talks about how shit like Co-op in System Shock 2 was a horrible idea he didnt want because it made the singleplayer worse because they had to switch focus from it. The same can be applied to DLC. I trust Irrational on this one. Also
... The fuck? We know nothing of what the game will play like and it's already encouraging us to buy equipment DLC?
I like how you can pre-order day-one DLC along with the game separately. Instead of, say, some "full-game pre-order edition", like most do these days. It's certainly not a sign of incoming milking of everyone who doesn't want to pre-order cat in a bag.
I like the idea of getting all the DLC for a game at once but before the game is out and you even know if any of it is worthwhile what sane person would bother.
Why do preorder DLC packs make the game easier anyway? Shouldn't hardcore fans have greater overlap with those wanting a meaty challenging experience?
I like the idea of getting all the DLC for a game at once but before the game is out and you even know if any of it is worthwhile what sane person would bother.
Basically the mentality you should have when it comes to preordering anything. If the game sucks, you're boned, especially if you get a Steam version you can't trade in. If you wait, you can look at reviews and snatch copies from disappointed customers if the retailer happens not to sell the game at a discount in the first week.
I like the idea of getting all the DLC for a game at once but before the game is out and you even know if any of it is worthwhile what sane person would bother.
It's almost like nothing of the game's content is cut for the sake of some additional profit! I don't state anything really, I'm not the one to suspect Irrational in such things, but that's really not unheard of.
So you're saying that if they don't release a season pass, they are not insured to make dlc for the game AFTER the release?
They're going to make DLC either way, no matter how much complaining happens, they're just trying to sell it in a cheaper form now. They need money either way, so they sell it cheaper up front.
people act like DLC is something new that's slowly cursing every game.
I think including the power ups is a pretty dumb idea (gold weapons I don't care about), but honestly having a DLC season pass is something I'm fine with, you pay a little more up front and you get all the DLC for less, yeah it's a bit of a gamble, but that's the point of it. And Levine has made it pretty clear he doesn't intend to use DLC as a means of charging more for cut content. Also frankly I'm just glad this means Bioshock Infinite's DLC will be available through steam and not GFWL like Bioshock 2's.
Throwing money at DLC (or any product) that you know literally know nothing about nor any regard to quality is a practice which is actively harming the games industry. People don't reward quality content with money anymore - they just throw their money around at anything that looks vaguely stimulating even if they know jack shit about what it is. It needs to stop. It's rewarding devs for bad business practices. I'm not saying this game is bad or that the dev is but this does NOTHING but make a poor situation worse.
Then it would be a problem with the consumers not the developers. Its not bad practice, its just a gamble that the consumers have to be willing to take which they evidently are. I mean, your argument could be used to just completely shutdown Kickstarter. Its people investing money in to a product with the expectation to get an adequate return on their investment. Its absolutely risky, but not by any means one you are obligated to take. And if it ends up paying off, you're getting a wealth of content cheaper than if you waited and bought individually in literally every case I have ever seen.
Not to mention that you could very VERY easily get ripped off and burned pretty badly by shit like this. I think the pre-order for Colonial Marines is a stellar example.
There are so many issues with Colonial Marines, and it barely has anything to do with preorders.
the beast of video games : season passes
they're just milking money from fucking idiots I hate DLC but this garbage doesnt detract or change the game, just makes it easier for children and frat dudes with too much money

I think the pre-order for Colonial Marines is a stellar example.
The problem with Colonial Marines is that there was an embargo until the day of release. If anyone had seen it coming it would be different, but there were WAY too many problems with Colonial Marines to use it as an example. The money they spent elsewhere, the delays that meant nothing, the false advertising of the demo and the issues with Timeshift that they had. The problem wasn't with preordering in general, if you watched the livestream IGN had or a recording of it you could tell something was different, and with Bioshock Infinite I've seen some actual gameplay before release and I'm sure we'll see reviews, hell I've seen a review of an unfinished version at some point. Buy the DLC or not, it's going to happen whether we loathe it or love it.
If they release a Season Pass even if the game isn't finished is a bad thing. You know, some years ago DLC was actually for releasing content they wanted to add after releasing the game, not before.
I sill stand by my Opinion that Fallout: New Vegas handled DLC better then any other game I've seen. The four main DLCs are proper EXPANSION PACKS. They add fun, challenging stories that show some of the best writing I've seen in a game, are all interconnected in unique ways, and have an overarching theme that makes you think without getting in the way of the gameplay.
I don't understand the point of a season pass. Is it just like buying all the DLC before it is released?
I don't understand the point of a season pass. Is it just like buying all the DLC before it is released?
It's basically preordering the DLC at a reduced price.
You guys do realize you can buy season passes after the game comes out in 100 percent of cases right
Why is this game 60 dollars? Ridiculously over priced.
Why is this game 60 dollars? Ridiculously over priced.
Are you being serious?
Are you being serious?
PC games are usually 50 dollars. [editline]24th February 2013[/editline] and they should be considering that we can't really sell them after we bought them on steam.
Season pass to everything these days.
