So I'm getting a roxio game capture device for my ps3 which records in 480p, but videos show that if it's converted to 1080p then the quality is far better, the file will be an AVI by the way.
So my question is some people say to upscale the video in the roxio video converter, and others say do it in sony vegas or another video converter.
So which one would be better, or should I use multiple? for example upscaling it to 1080p in the roxio package and then when done editing rendering it in sony vegas.
Ps. Will there be any loss of quality when converting multiple times, or will it just be a waste of time?
Thanks!
It would obviously be better if you could get some raw 1080p (olool raw 1080p on a console) footage recordings.
I've briefly searched around, and in my option, Sony Vegas upscaling, using a few filters, gives a better end result.
Thanks mate :)

FYI, some PS3 games do support true 1080p (1920 x 1080), though I only know about just over 30 games that do.
upscaling video does literally nothing to the quality, it just stretches it out. you can't make existing video a better quality level. you can upscale 480p to 1080p but it's just going to stretch it out. always keep video the same size it originally was.
if you want to record in HD, buy an HD capture card. don't be another peprson who stretches their awful SD video to 1080p because they think it makes the quality better, it happens enough on youtube

On youtube it theoretically does - the higher bitrate outweighs the increased number of pixels
On youtube it theoretically does - the higher bitrate outweighs the increased number of pixels
Its not incredibly better though. Especially if the original was in SD, so it was blurry even at native resolution.
too bad 480p youtube is perfectly crisp
Well I will be using a "Roxio game capture"
Search for normal 480p gameplay, and then for HD quality, theres a big difference
Duh, that's because those videos were actually CAPTURED in HD
No, if you read what I said, look for the roxio game capture footage, both 480p and upscaled 1080p
As far as I can see they have just sharpened the video...
Yeah, I don't see a huge difference. It might be a little better, due to the higher bitrate, but it still looks like standard definition. I changed from 720p to 480p, and literally saw no difference. You just can't interpolate new pixels out of nowhere.
Video I referenced.

Only in some cases upscaled video will look better. Like mentioned it's mainly for streaming sites that give HD video significantly higher bitrates to compensate. So more of the image is maintained versus a normal 480p stream. If your concern is a non streaming use, then upscaling does next to nothing. Since your media player is doing it on the fly while running fullscreen anyways.
If you want you could use a camera, DSP pulls it off really well, you can barely tell it's cam.
Ive been using a camera, a 1080p Sony one, but I'm getting them lines that have something to do with the frequency.
Ive been using a camera, a 1080p Sony one, but I'm getting them lines that have something to do with the frequency.
I can also see the reflection of your window in one of your videos.
them lines that have something to do with the frequency.
lol, no that's interlacing. You sure it's a 1080p camera and not 1080i?
Denfinitely 1080p, so I'm not sure whats causing it then
Denfinitely 1080p, so I'm not sure whats causing it then
You mean the flickering? I think it has something to do with the frequency of the backlight (or maybe the LCD, I dunno). If they don't match just right, it does that.
why are people arguing over this
the reason the bitrate is higher is because the image is larger and an increase in resolution is an exponential increase in filesize and therefore bitrate
upscaling a 480p video to 1080p is fucking retarded
Ill probably only go up to 720p, but looking at the upscaled videos from the roxio game capture it's definitely better quality.
no it's not better quality it's literally the exact same are you retarded
here let me illustrate with a 480p dvd movie

if you think the second one is better then congrats you're dumb, that's exactly what converting to 720p does. it just makes it bigger. also the image went from 400kb to 1.5mb, imagine if that was a video at 30/60 FPS that shit would be huge
Heres a normal 480p video:

And heres one thats upscaled:

In this case the second one is much better.
Maybe I'll get dumbed too, but I think the second video looks better as well. But you forgot a major issue when comparingthings. Compare the same thing. you uploaded different videos.

spot on
[editline]5th August 2011[/editline]
you don't know what codec or encoder they used for both videos, you can't even come close to making a comparison.
but even still it looks like shit in both videos so why would you even bother with quality
Yes, I should say both look pretty bad, but the second one looks less bad. But still upload the same video, with the upscaling and see how it looks.
i looked up the roxio and apparantly it blows hard
I haven't bought it yet, but if I can find two of the samee videos then I'll share.

You know that a capture device is horrible and only does 480p, but you are still planning on buying it? Why don't you get something decent like a hauppauge.
