Team of feature creep game designers and not enough realistic programmers to tell them to shut up
Too big to fail or too big to succeed?
Team of feature creep game designers and not enough realistic programmers to tell them to shut up
Is it just me or is there not a single in-engine proof of concept on the whole page? [editline]edit[/editline] Nevermind, backers can walk around the ship(s) they bought: (apparently outdated video) I probably would start with having some game parts first... It's pretty though but I don't think a lot of programming work went into it (unless they made the whole engine from scratch). [editline]25th February 2014[/editline] A more up-to-date one, but it still looks like all-art-no-gameplay. [editline]25th February 2014[/editline] Oh wait, there's a half-working shooting range (and an aquarium that might have swarm behaviour but I'm not sure). Apparently the actual dogfight stuff is scheduled for April.
I want to see a proof of concept of their overall gameplay mechanic design. How it all works together and what the main part of the game is going to be about.

They did a live stream a few months ago showing off a very early version of multiplayer dogfighting, that is apparently planned to be released around PAX in April for backers to play with (Gameplay starts at about 12mins). The big issue is that most gaming websites tend to only report on stretch goals, many not even bothering to properly read what it's about. A lot of articles about the procedural generation stretch goal have glossed over the fact that this is actually something they're planning on adding after release, and they're only putting together a team to begin research on it. It'd be nice if more sites would report on things like the content they show on wingman's hangar, there was a good piece showing some of the work on the larger capital ships and mining drones last week. [editline]25th February 2014[/editline] It's gonna be a lot like Freelancer was, but improved in every area.

I'll keep an eye on it, but I probably wouldn't buy before it's a somewhat finished game.
I lose faith in this more and more with each new stretch goal. It's like Oh we have this much money now, so now this feature's going to be added. Features need time, lots of it. With each new goal the release date should be getting pushed way the fuck back. In order to get all of what they're claiming into the game, in good working order, it would take a couple years on top of what they've already done of non stop work by 150 people I just can't see it happening unless they do push the release into 2015 or 2016 or something. All this by November of this year? There's no way
"I just can't grasp the idea they already planned this!"
"I believe every thing they've ever told me" ps it was a community picked feature for the stretch goal.

Most of the stretch goals recently have just been reveals of systems, planets and ships which would have already been in the game anyway.

All this by November of this year? There's no way
It definitely won't be completed this year, but that isn't a reason to loose faith in the game. These aren't features they've just thought about and suddenly decided to add to the game, they've planned for them already. It just means they can make things better or start working on them sooner. So far most of the stretch goals have been relatively small things like a new ship or planet. Stretch goals are to get more money to help development, it doesn't all get used on whatever that goal is. This goal is for after launch, anyway. The anticipated release date for the completed game isn't this year either: http://starcitizen.wikia.com/wiki/Anticipated_Release_Schedule
