They got the details about that a bit wrong, regarding the Gemini avatar.. But this is pretty good. When I brought my friend into this game, it was a bit difficult having limited heroes, and this is only going to help the game thrive. I don't think people who payed for it, like me, can really complain about the change. It was worth the purchase, and now it's more accessible for everyone.
This is a smart move on their part, but I can see the popularity of HoN declining once Dota 2 is released. Everyone gets on HoN for copying Dota characters, but it's not like it was meant to be anything else in the beginning. To my knowledge, it was quite literally supposed to be like a "Dota 1.5", a standalone Dota. Sure, they've gone in their own direction with certain things, but once Dota 2 is up to date with Dota, I'm sure Icefrog will continue to update in ways no one else will be able to, what with him being an original creator of Dota.
what with him being an original creator of Dota.
no
no
Was I misinformed? That's what I've heard a number of times. Correct me if I'm wrong, please

Icefrog is just (I think) the longest standing developer of DOTA, there was Eul (Works for Valve now?) and Pendragon (Of Riot Games) before him.

Well who knows then. The only thing left to do is wait for Dota 2 to be finished, and then see what happens from there.
Pendragon (Of Riot Games) before him.
Guinsoo was the one working on DotA, Pendragon hosted the dota-allstars.com which worked as main hub for anything DotA from 2004 to 2010ish. Guinsoo also works at Riot now.
That's ridiculous, but I could see why. Their swap system in HoN was broken as shit, that a f2p could trade for any hero he doesn't own.

I always thought HoN's direction was the superior version for DOTA. Shame it doesn't have Steam's backing. Atleast they didn't sell their soul to the devil and went EA.

Should've sold my legacy account when I could. I prefer Dota 2 anyway. It's funny when you think about it. LoL has now the worst F2P model in moba genre :v:
this game was honestly the best DOTA-like in it's prime days, just before it went free to play now they added a load of shitty heroes and it's community is even worse than it was i'd actually pay to play HON like it was a year ago
i still play HoN because of it's fast paced gank style meta. it's just a good game to kill hours on.

And he was me thinking us legacy's couldn't have our balls kicked any harder.

( Also the shop isn't a complete and total fuck up ) ...Plus, the model isn't that bad; they're reducing the IP price on atleast 1 champion everytime another is released. From 6300 to 4800, from 4800 to 3150...

My HoN legacy account is officially the most useless thing I'll ever own. Ever.
Having to farm IP just so you can get ONE set of runes to fill an entire book just so you can be on an even playing field is a terrible model in a moba.
If you're at the point where you need runes to be "even", you should already have runes TO be even.
If you're at the point where you need runes to be "even", you should already have runes TO be even.
Not really, obviously you have runes, but I didnt have a full set of tier 3 runes for the longest time and thats where all my IP went to pretty much. Then if I wanted a hero I had to drop a few thousand IP. Its a shitty model, any MOBA that makes you buy the heros is just fucking retarded, im not saying LoL is a bad game because I played it for the longest time and I think a lot of the older heros are incredibly original, but that business model is just terrible for a MOBA game. Its a smart buisness model for Riot because they probably make shitload from it, but for players and the game itself its bad.

Buying heroes does suck, but after you play for a while you've got enough heroes that you can basically fulfill any role if you've played your cards right. But yeah, I can understand how stupid this is, they make tons more money this way. I've spent more money on this "free-to-play" title than I have on retail AAA games.

It doesn't stop me. Runes gives you a small advantage, as in 100 extra hp or a minor attack speed boost. It all comes down to skill.
If you're at the point where you need runes to be "even", you should already have runes TO be even.
Except that implies that you NEED to buy runes, meaning more grind.

Anyone that denies runes give an advantage are idiots.

Runes give such a big advantage its not even funny, all those small percents on the runes start to add up pretty fast/

Don't even think you know anything about LoL until you hit at least lvl30, please. Being under lvl30 is a tutorial. And "blablabla I play with lvl30 friends blabla" means shit. You don't play against players your friends play with when they play without you. Similar to ranked, there's also elo for normal games. And yes, you have to buy runes if you don't want to be shit. It's not a small advantage at all early game. In fact, it's like getting a second doran's item
