• First Time - Gaming/Office Build
    8 replies, posted
Hello, I am building a new computer. I have put a list of parts together and I think the specs are suitable for what I need. One thing I am not sure about is the case, the PSU and the GPU. I'd like to use it to play games like Garry's Mod and Minecraft, which are not that resource hungry. This is also my first build, so if there is anything I should know or anything I need please tell me. My budget is £500 but I'd like to go under that if possible. **CPU** | [Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor](http://pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-cpu-bx80646i54670k) | $232.96 @ SuperBiiz **CPU Cooler** | [Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler](http://pcpartpicker.com/part/cooler-...r-rr212e20pkr2) | $35.98 @ SuperBiiz **Motherboard** | [ASRock Fatal1ty H87 Performance ATX LGA1150 Motherboard](http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asrock-...h87performance) | $107.86 @ Newegg **Memory** | [Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory](http://pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair...l8gx3m2a1600c9) | $79.99 @ Amazon **Storage** | [Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive](http://pcpartpicker.com/part/seagate...ve-st2000dm001) | $79.98 @ OutletPC **Storage** | [Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive](http://pcpartpicker.com/part/seagate...ve-st2000dm001) | $79.98 @ OutletPC **Video Card** | [Gigabyte GeForce GTX 750 1GB Video Card](http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyt...rd-gvn750oc1gi) | $109.99 @ Newegg **Case** | [Corsair 200R ATX Mid Tower Case](http://pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-case-200r) | $57.99 @ Micro Center **Power Supply** | [Corsair Builder 600W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply](http://pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-power-supply-cx600) | $49.99 @ Newegg One other thing I need is a lot of storage, so if the hard drives are available any cheaper that would be great.
PSU Should be fine. Do you really need 4tb of storage though? I would compromise at 2 and get a better GPU. Unless you really need 4tb that is. You also probably don't need an aftermarket cooler unless you care about looks or want to overclock. The 750 is alright but again if you ditch some storage and the cooler you could get a better card like a 760. Corsair makes good cases and the one you chose should be fine. Just my thoughts. Overall it's a good semi-budget build.

And the 4TB is a must, I have a lot of files and I plan to run RAID on the two drives and use a 500GB drive that I already have for the OS. As for the aftermarket cooler, from what I have read here on Facepunch, people tend to stray away from the stock coolers and I have a feeling I might be interesting in overclocking in the future.
The GTX760 has worked well for me. However it is a step up and a bit more pricey. If you're only sticking to source games you shouldn't have any problems, but to future-proof the rig a bit more you could use a bit more power in the GPU department.
You have a H87 motherboard which can't overclock, you'd have to upgrade to a Z-series chipset motherboard to have overclocking potential This build is very unbalanced towards the CPU, though. I'd recommend getting an i5 4430, a cheaper B85-series motherboard, removing the after market cooler, and going for a R9 280 instead. The difference in performance between the i5's is minimal, while the graphics card is in a completely different league than the 750
Your budget is $669 and you want a build that can be overclocked + have 2TB HDD space that's very difficult to do without any huge discounts. Most of your money went towards the x2 4TB HDD's. Overclocking isn't a must and it's out question with your budget, stock coolers are fine granted you aren't overclocking and the FX 6000-8000 series are probably the only CPUs that are just unbearable with stock coolers ( they are noisy and nearly impossible to overclock with); don't worry about stock coolers. Thanks for putting this list together. I like the look of this build. I might remove one of the hard drives for now just to knock the price down a bit.
The Althlon x4 750 isn't actually a terrible chip for the money. I still wouldn't recommend it over an i3, but if it's all that would fit (eg a budget below OP's) it's the only AMD chip I'd ever recommend in their current lineup outside of very specific situations
