• WmiPrvse.exe eating CPU

So I've discovered that this process has been the key to all of my problems. It eats up an absurd amount of processing power, and I can't disable it, and if I suspend it, a ton of things (mostly Steam related) refuse to work. How do I get it to stop taking up so much of my CPU? I've tried googling the issue, but so far I've found no reliable solution.
This is what it comes from: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee692772.aspx And this is what it does: http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/process/wmiprvse.exe.html Now, there's a chance it's a virus masquerading as this thing... If it's not at C:\WINDOWS\System32\Wbem, then you've got a problem. Apparently, Sophos AV detects and removes that particular variant of that particular worm, though your success might be limited. Best of luck.
It's definitely in the directory it's supposed to be. Apparently, this is a common problem, and it's usually another program or file that causes this process to flip out. I traced its activity to cimwin32.dll. I don't really know what to do about that.
