I would like to hear your input on this but mine would probably be ThaImpact. Oh BTW, this isn't just a regular theme you have to replace explorer.exe, and some .dll files but its all worth it for this sleek design.
Can I be biased? The only theme I've used besides my own are ClearScreen Sharp by K-Johnson Macos X by ZeusOSX Leo by Giannisgx89 Zune Quickplay/Collection by Giannisgx89 All of which I aided in.
Soft7 with steelOrb Small.

Thanks for.. sharing(?) :-)
Why doesn't MS allow for an easy way to install these themes? I don't see why patching system files is necessary.
Why doesn't MS allow for an easy way to install these themes? Someone needs to be hit for that decision. They should have been hit during the Vista era actually, but at least someone made that VistaGlazz thing.

Rafael's UXTheme patches + Psycob's aero on maximized windows = VistaGlazz. There's no reason VistaGlazz should exist at all.
Not to mention that they'd have consumers screaming at them when they encounter a buggy theme as if it were MS's fault. Also personally like this one as well. Would probably be running that one if I were on 7 http://www.themebin.com/windows-7-themes/shadow-windows-7-theme/
Wow. I actually never even thought about themes at all for Windows 7, it was like they were impossible and non-existent till I seen this thread in my mind. I love the default glass.

The only people who use themes are those who know how to use themes which they no you have to get 3rd party software in order to use.

[editline]12:56PM[/editline] Also, on the topic of official theme modifications... If you were able to mod out of the box, there would be: 1) Terrible themes everywhere 2) Obnoxious idiots complaining about broken themes everywhere 3) People trying to cash whore the "theming business" on ebay and craigslist and 4) More terrible themes everywhere

I like the original theme :(

The best example I can think of is HTC's Sense UI.
Why doesn't MS allow for an easy way to install these themes? I don't see why patching system files is necessary.
Agreed. Would be much happier if they allowed custom skins.
I'm using AeroVG Se7en on my netbook. Not too much different from the standard style, but it's nice. I would really like something new for my desktop though... suggestions?

ClearScreen Sharp is very nice, just switched form Soft7 (which I can reccomend) to it, and it seems much more clean. Though what does the included explorer.exe add/ change?

I did the uxtheme patcher stuff awhile ago to get the steel orb, but for no reason, it didn't work and I had to spend the next 5 hours restoring Windows
oooh... just tried Sonye, I couldn't decide on which one to keep so I renamed all 4 folders from Sonye to SonyeBlue, SonyeGreen, SonyeSoft, SonyeBlue, and reflected the changes in the .theme file, and copied all 4 over to the Themes folder, it actually worked!
I went through pretty much every theme in this thread and they all had subtle issues, from making the Firefox toolbar buttons look like ass when hovered over (almost all of them did this) to making dropdowns on winforms toolbars appear solid black. Quite a pity as some of them actually looked pretty good D:
I did the uxtheme patcher stuff awhile ago to get the steel orb, but for no reason, it didn't work and I had to spend the next 5 hours restoring Windows
Restore what? You can restore the uxtheme.dll, etc. with universal theme patcher
I have yet to come across a terrible theme for 7.
I meant if you didn't have to replace the system files.
The author of VistaGlazz needs to be hit. Rafael's UXTheme patches + Psycob's aero on maximized windows = VistaGlazz. There's no reason VistaGlazz should exist at all.
They made it easier for retards like myself.
Use UXStyle rather than messing with sysfiles.
I thought both programs just auto patched the system files for you, does UXStyle work differently? When I used UTP all I had to do was run the program and click "patch" three times for it to work.
