I'm looking for a distro under 1 gb to put on a flash drive, preferably using a desktop environment such as KDE or GNOME. Anyone have any suggestions?
Sidux
Ubuntu. That's around 700 MBs isn't it? :v: Well it fits on my 2 GB thumbdrive.

Slax is amazing. Fedora is pretty user-friendly as well.
Mandriva Arch Puppy
Fedora Mint Mandriva
Mint is Ubuntu compatible, but runs almost nothing like Ubuntu. There are so many changes throughout the distro, I'm surprised they can keep the compatibility up.
It's not that hard to remain compatibility at a few points.
Scott Pilgrim avatars for the win! :buddy: Also, Hymura is a good distro. It's very "Professional" in appearance, so it's good for businesses.
Arch Linux If you're experienced with Linux then there is nothing nicer.
I think Mint is under 1GB.

Fedora is very user friendly, at least if you're only using basic things, but If you're looking for something for a 1GB Stick, I'd recommend KNOPPIX.
