New ASUS mobo, "CPU fan error", fan works and heatsink installed properly

So I just finished with my new PC build, and it's great. The main problem is when I first booted it up, it said "CPU fan error". I reapplied thermal paste and reapplied the heatsink (stock intel cooler for right now). The fan is running, and the heatsink was applied properly. It was still saying it. The temps are okay (not great but that's because of stock cooler). I went to the bios and just set the CPU fan to "ignore" and it stopped notifying me about it every time it boots. I mean, if the fan is running and the temps are fine, is everything just fine? Any suggestions to try to actually kill the problem would be appreciated, otherwise I'm just curious to know if this is an acceptable workaround.
Mobo is an ASUS Z97 AR, with an i5 4590
Thanks in advance.
I've had this exact same issue with the same motherboard. It's always fixed itself after I fiddle around with the fan connecter :v:
nevermind i'm a fucking idiot, fan was plugged into "cpu optional" instead of the main one so it wasn't reading it
temps are higher than i want them to be though, still might reinstall heatsink again with better thermal later
Was about to say, make sure you are plugged into the correct header.
What sort of temps where you having? ~40deg (on the high) idle is about the norm for 4th gen i5s.
like 40-45 idle and when i run prime95 tests it maxes at 75. i have a fairly warm ambient temperature for what it's worth.
might just get a hyper 212 evo next week and try it again
