I never understood consoles with such small space.
So its only real use would be as a netflix machine and playing the games without installers?
And PS1/whatever titles, of course.
What can you even do with 12gb
I thought my 120gb was small
$199 for only 12 GB? Considering the consumer might want a game or two to go with that, we could be talking an extra $30-$60, so really we're talking like $230-$260, give or take.
Meanwhile the GTA5 bundle is 500 GB and comes with a copy of the game, all for $270, much better deal.
I mean FFS the original Xbox 360 when it came out had a 20 GB harddrive, and even that wasn't enough, what the fuck will you be able to do with 12 GB?
Well it's great for people who would like to pick up a PS3 for just a few games.
Well it's great for people who would like to pick up a PS3 for just a few games.
Most of them have a mandatory install with an average of like 4-6 GB per game, you'd run out of space so fast it's not even funny.
Buy this and replace the hard drive. Easy peasy.
Consoles with sizes this low make some sense on the 360 where installations aren't usually mandatory, but make almost no sense considering how many games require mandatory installation on the PS3.

Getting a 500GB hard drive will still cost you around $60. With $260 you might as well just get that GTA 5 bundle or whatever for a few bucks more.
I honestly think something like this might sell for like 100-125$ but not much more than that
would you be able to install a hard drive into these models or are they different from the older ones

The 12GB is a flash drive.
I got a 500GB white super slim with a year of PS Plus and a bundled game for $250, 12GB isn't nearly enough for... anything.
I thought they meant 12GB of RAM >_>
I have a 12GB PS3, i lasted 3 days before installing a HDD i had laying around in it.

On release their was a 120 GB model as well I'm pretty sure. The 20GB was the cheaper Xbox 360 arcade.

No, the cheaper had a 4mb memory card, and the most expensive had a 20gb, I would know, I got that one.
the cheapest 12gb PS3 i saw was for 230$ :|
i hope that one is region free
Isn't this great considering that PS4 isn't compatible with PS3 games, picking up a cheap PS3 for those games too.
Why do companies keep charging through the nose for storage that literally costs less than a cent per GB to make?
I feel like they could just put a 32gb flash drive in there as flash storage and it'd be twice as useful, just because you can at least store some indie games on it.
Because storage isn't actually that cheap.
That's pitiful. My fucking watch has more capacity.
I have a 40GB and can barely live with that amount of space on it. How on earth do they expect people to use a 12GB?
We sell the 12GB PS3s at work for $359, the 500Gb for $450, yet, the 160GB Second generation PS3 costs $200. People still buy the 12GB PS3s for the ridiculous price.
When this launched in Europe, it was a great deal, coupled with a 1 TB 5400 RPM laptop HDD (bought separately). A little bit cheaper than buying a bundled PS3 (500 GB drive), especially if you disliked the bundled game.
The only downside was (and still is) the HDD mounting bracket, it has to be bought separately and it's quite difficult to find. I really don't know why they haven't put one in each 12 GB SKU.
Otherwise, disc games are the rule in Europe, and digital games are the exception - the pices in the UK PS Store are absolutely insane. Also, no Netflix here. With a 12 GB console I was able to install game data for 4-5 AAA games, including Read Dead Redemption and one Assassin's Creed game, more than enough for an entire week of gaming. Also, I believe the console supports USB storage, so one could pop in an external HDD drive or a high capacity USB stick at any time.
So yeah, the 12 GB version is quite great if you don't live in the US. However, this super slim hardware revision has a much poorer construction than the slim version.
