I got this problem. When I click on any Steam game to run it, it will show that "Preparing to launch game here."
This can take up to 30 seconds, staring at that popup, before the game actually begins to load. How can I fix this?
Defrag?
And here I thought it was going to be "Reinstall Steam". Thanks. I'll try a defrag and see if that clears it up.

Has it always been like this?
Sorry to put it to you but Steam has always done that, it just takes a while to validate the game and launch it for some reason.

Well, not on mine, so sorry to put it to you but a defrag should solve this problem.

Actually I believe it can differ between users. This is especially mainly related to the hardware the user uses.
Such as my old PC which was pretty low end in some places (small 5200RPM hard drive, Pentium 4 processor). This took the steam loading pop-up up to usually 30-40 seconds before the game actually launched. (Don't get me started on the GmoD ingame startup time, up to 5 minutes at times.)
If it isn't that, then check if any processes in the background is taking to much RAM or CPU usage that shouldn't be.
If it still isn't that. Then I guess a fragmentation wouldn't hurt.
Well starting up games takes a good 10 seconds if not, 25 at the most. It only really depends on your PC/internet speed. Like someone above said, it needs too look in the database to confirm you have purchased the game and load all the content, check for updates, ect. Usually a defrag will do it though.
Download more ram
No, i'm kidding obviously. But you do need more ram for it to start up faster. Maybe.
I got 2GB of RAM. I never had this problem before. It just started about two weeks ago I believe.
My drives are a mess, especially the drive Steam's on. This may fix it. I'll let you guys know after it's done.
Defragment your entire HDD, this should fix it. Also some bigger games like Team Fortress 2 take longer compared to CS 1.6, etc.
You possibly might also delete registry.blob I think it's called. That might have something to do with it.
Defragging my drives did not help. It still delays.
Deleting ClientRegistry.blob did not help either.
It does that for me all the time, with every game.
I thought it was normal.
After all it's just 30 seconds max, having a little patience helps.
Does your computer suck?
really? is this really a problem? fuck you.
Wow that's a very long time, I feel so sorry for you.
