• Can't forward ports to host a game server

Hey guys, I'm trying to host a game on Team Fortress 2. But when I try my friend can't join. It says "Server not responding". Later I find out I'm meant to forward my ports. I don't know how so I found this guide: http://www.pcworld.com/article/244314/how_to_forward_ports_on_your_router.html Well, I made it up to the part where I have to enter my IP Address/Sub Mask etc... But when I click "ok" it tells me that there's already a computer using my IP address and that there's a conflict. Despite this, I carry on anyway. When I type my Default Gateway into my web browser, it fails to log me in, despite the fact that I typed the username and password correctly. I also find out that I had been completely disconnected from the internet. I had to remove my Preferred IP/Sub Mask etc... for my computer to re-connect to the internet. Can anyone explain this to me and help me out? I can't manage to forward my ports. All I want to do is host a game on TF2 ... is there a simpler way of going about this? If not, how do I fix my problems stated above. Thanks
To assign a static IP address, you must be sure that the address is not in use. Sounds like you were doing it right, but try changing the last 1 to 3 digits in the IP address. In most routers you can assign static IP addresses to devices connected to it. If the router doesn't log you in despite the fact the username and password are correct, they are in fact not. Otherwise it would let you log in. The admin username and password are not to be mistaken by your wireless ones. The original ones should be in the manual or on the bottom of your router. If they don't work, somebody must have changed it.
