• Which GPU should I get?

Hey PC Building. First time posting here. I'm planning on getting a new build in the very near future. I have msot of it sorted, but I'm unsure on the GPU. I have a budget of around £150 - £250, and right now I'm going with a GTX 760, but I'm not sure if I should get the AMD equivalent. My monitor is 1080p, by the way, if that helps. Think you guys can help me out? I'll post more info about the build if you need it.
Can you post your full specs including your psu's wattage and make?
Can you post your full specs including your psu's wattage and make?
Sure, here's what at the moment. I might need to change the PSU, though. Windows 8 Standard 64bit Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" SSD Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 120mm Asus NVIDIA GeForce GTX760 DirectCU II OC 2GB 8GB RAM Corsair Builder Series CXM 500W Modular CPU Gigabyte Z87-HD3 Motherbaord Intel Core i5 4670K Quad-Core @ 3.4GHz Corsair Carbide Series 200R Compact Case
The AMD equivalent is the 7950 (there's no current generation equivalent unfortunately). http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/855?vs=854 They run pretty much neck and neck. I would get the twin frozr version of the 760 personally (DirectCU II doesn't preform as well). You should be able to get away with a 500W PSU with either card.
Do yourself a favor and purchase an AMD 280X. It's a fantastic videocard, and they'll only get cheaper as time progresses. I am personally picking up another one in the next few days to crossfire with my Gigabyte 7970ghz. My personal favorites in regards to brands are Gigabyte, MSI, and Sapphire. Here's a URL to one which will run you £230 with VAT included: Scan.Co.UK : Gigabyte 280x
I thought the OP said $250 at first. For 250 pounds, definitely move up the 280X. I would get this one: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/3gb-msi-radeon-radeon-r9-280x-gaming-3g-28nm-6000mhz-gddr5-gpu-1000mhz-boost-1050mhz-2048-streams-hd It has a better cooler. There's also a user on this forum that has been saying Gigabyte's R9 cards have been having extremely high failure rates.

The price is high, but it's a more than reasonable price to pay for the quality you are getting. The r9 280x will pretty much max out everything @ 1080p. Here's some more information on it: http://www.anandtech.com/show/7400/the-radeon-r9-280x-review-feat-asus-xfx/20

Please note that my current CPU in an AMD 1090T running on a Crosshair IV mobo, which is presently dieing. The 7970ghz[aka 280x] is definitely one of the best video cards I have had in a long time. With your current CPU and motherboard, you'll get amazing performance.
I would say stick with the 760, Its a great card and you get the nvidia goodies. (Shadowplay, Physx, CUDA etc)
I would say stick with the 760, Its a great card and you get the nvidia goodies. (Shadowplay, Physx, CUDA etc)
There is no reason to choose a significantly slower card than the 280X because of features like shadowplay
I would say stick with the 760, Its a great card and you get the nvidia goodies. (Shadowplay, Physx, CUDA etc)
Both GPU companies have additional exclusive features and specific games optimized for their cards. Neither has such a significant amount more as to justify buying a specific graphics cards solely for those features.
Have AMD fixed the frametime issues though? I remember when I was last comparing AMD vs Nvidia the AMD cards were crap compared to Nvidia on frametimes and from personal opinion frametime makes a difference.
Yes. They fixed those in a beta update to Catalyst a few months ago. I'm sure its in the live release now. Also the frametime issue was only with cards in CrossfireX (both SLI and CrossfireX suffer frametime issues about the same since AMD released the drivers).
