I always find myself wondering why so many Triple-A WWII games steer so heavily away from the actual start of the war. Can you think of any times the invasions of Poland, Belgium, the Netherlands or even France have been portrayed in a non-strategy game?
This would even provide the ability to include a historical German campaign without having to be a long retreat or veer too sharply into war-crime territory. Heck, the Fallschirmjäger had some pretty badass raids in the earlier years. Instead, everything seems to start in 1941 at the earliest for some reason I cannot fathom, or more commonly, we get WW2 starting with D-Day.

Can you list any game of note that doesn't take place in Normandy, Holland, Pacific Islands, North Africa, or Russian Eastern Front?

Sniper Elite 4 takes place in Italy and so does the World War 2 mission in Mafia 2.
Spoiler alert:
Hitler dies.
It's really really simple, actually.
Because they want to focus on the Americans and portraying them as heroes saving the day once again.
Rarely do you actually get to play on the side of the UK and even more rarely do you play on the side of the Russians. And not to mention the historical accuracy of the portrayal of these 2 (especially Russia) has been fucking atrocious at best and downright comical at worst. Every other European country? Insultingly absent or misrepresented. Or even Canada for that matter. Good luck ever finding a WW2 game that properly acknowledges Canada's involvement in WW2 that isn't just some background poster on a wall or something.
In Call of Duty 3 one of the campaigns followed a Canadian tank platoon/squad/swarm. All I remember from that campaign is that it was set at night and there were a lot of grenades thrown at my feet.

Don't forget the Polish Tankers.
I can still remember the Tank commander screaming at you whenever the Tank took a hit.
