Getting straight to the point, when I try to download a demo, it will stay on preparing the files, and if I try to close it, then Steam crashes. And with Team Fortress 2, it is still saying " download starting " It has been like this since I got the Orange Box a few weeks ago.
Any suggestion?
Usually deleting ClientRegistery.blob solves most download-related problems, if that doesn't work, it's most likely because the Steam server are overloaded, I mean, it IS Christmas after all, people may still be installing some of their games.
you may have to delete your steamapps folder and reinstall steam. I had this same problem a while ago on my old xp computer. You will lose all saved game data (unless you really want to go back and find all the saves) but steam will be able to reinstall the games later. As for tf2, as well as most games, the data is saved remotely and not on your computer so you will recover all data automatically.
